a hole that NEEDS to be fixed
G'day all,
I have just purchased a 63 beetle with the herbie theme, not really my cuppa tea but the bug was to hard to pass up and after 4 years of searching
this one wasn't going to get away.
Herbs is not perfect but what dub is... my main problem is the dodgy hole in the roof that the previous owner has cut. It has a canvas press stud top
but most of the press studs are missing and as we all now these are shithouse and pop off after reaching running speeds.
Its not a proper rag top and this guy got the chassis strengthened and engineered for road rego.
Im looking for some advise to as I would like to keep the ragtop look but am not prepared to spend big bucks chopping my roof for a graft off another
dub... any suggestions ??????
Cheers

If you can put up some pics, and give a location, people will be able to assess what you need, and may know places nearby that can help.

Have a look at http://www.parisbeetles.co.uk/beetle%20sunroofs.htm
They do a good product, may be an option for replacement.

Get a piece of the roof of another beetle and make a removable hard top.

That would be the one from turramurra then?
From the ebay pics thats a massive sunroof he's put into it, I can see why the studs aren't going to hold it up. If the roof he supplied has ribbing
to support it so it doesn't cave in under water weight, then I'd just replace the missing studs and whack the roof on.
The Parisbeetles custom sunroofs look the business but your hole looks to be a custom size.
These guys might be a good start if you can drive the car into them

Thanks to all for the help finding the right solution to this problem...
I done some research through the parisbettle and that was too expensive so I have decided to stick with the original roof and just do some
upgrades.
Cheers all...
matt
p.s....yes this is the herbie from turramurra, which was on ebay

Very nice. I was thinking of bidding on it but I'm living in Adelaide these days so too far for me to deal with.
It looks the business from the photos, hope everything works sweet after the sunroof
