steering shaft movement


i can move the steering wheel in an upward direction. Is there a bearing on the shaft or an adjustment i can make? The car is a 74 beetle(non super)

The plastic bush that fits inside the bearing needs replacing.

Definitly not one of VWs brighter ideas going from a metal bushing to plastic.

Hi

If the bearing is OK youj can just cut a strip of plastic sheet and feed it into the gap, Idid this with my sons bug years ago and its still working.

thanks for the info guys.does that bush have a thick wall as the shaft seems to move at least 5mm.

It feels like alot when the steering wheel attached but it probably has bout a 2-3mm wall
