Road legal tyres - a list?

Does anyone know how to search the web? Clearly I do not.

I'm looking for a list of street legal tyres in NSW. Is there a legal list or a banned list? Is any treaded tyre legal so long as it is not marked "not for highway use" or words to that effect?

The tyres must comply with ADR 23/02.

I wish you could drive with full slicks :tu: that would be cool.

I noticed types near the end of their life grip and respond far better than new in dry, but are real bad in the rain

You can buy any type of tyre so long as its approved with the
DOT or whatever its called in Now..

BUT if Your wheel rim is too wide or too narrow its again illegal..

I believe 145 x 15 or 165 x 15 are legal on beetle rims seeing the original size tyre was 155 x 15..

I've never ever heard or anyone having their tyres banned by the poilice after being checked..
I've never ever had the tyres checked?? by police etc..

I'm not talking about late model cars that have a plate on the car advising the size or in the car manual..

its normal to attract attention if the tyres are outside the wheel arches... and illegal..

with so many laws nowadays, especially for later model cars
unless it came on the car... YIKES...

but oldies like beetles etc.. and cars over 40 years old...???

If You buy tyres from a tyre service , they should be OK...
Korean tyres seem OK.. I don't know about chinese tyres??
but have seen some odd named ones about...

if you know what size tyre you are after then jump onto google and look into bridgstone tyre centres, jaxquick fit, kmart tyres, maxxis,.... they are all online. source what brands you like and check prices. only problem with the cheese cutter wheels on a standard vw they normally wont have them in stock as no one really uses thies sizes every day, nor weill they displpay a pic or price for thies because they are just to uncommon. but least if you get online find who is near you will have their phone number and you can just do the call around rather than drive to every shop. hope this may help. happy looking

naaah I'm looking at a completely different angle. Regardless of what size wheel/tyre/original fitment whatever. Not looking for legal sizes but which tyre models are legal for road use. Like a Yokohama A048 looks for all intensive purposes like a race only tyre... only they are a Lotus factory option.

What I am after is the list of tyres "approved with the DOT or whatever its called"

Don't buy from overseas as they are sometimes not legal.
I have heard of people being defected for tyres.

I read it on samba, so it must be correct.

Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!
