factory resto's
I was just on carsguide.com checking out latest news on vw related stuff and found a story on a new factory in the kombi's original birthplace
Hannover,Germany. They (VW) claim to 'care' about their heritage and want to offer a full restoration service on any model kombi back to original
specs and can even add custom touches to suit customers needs. They put together a full photo collection of the build and do up a factory certificate
of restoration, how cool is that !! I also wonder how expensive is this service.........

Yes, this story was in the VW Club magazine last month.
Here is a typical news blog, with photos. I would imagine that a VW factory restoration would be VERY expensive! Of course you would also have to ship
your Kombi over to Germany, then home again...

I've seen estimates of between 40,000 and 100,000 Euros, depending on the level of restoration.
Been looking around the internet and have found no references to this on any official VW site. Just lots of magazines and other sites quoting "an
official VW press release".
I'm not 100% ready to believe it yet.
Regards,
Matt.

Here's one Matt - see press releases dated 29/03/12
http://www.vwn-presse.de/tbwebdb/vwn-presse/index.cfm?vl=en-GB&cl=2
These are only summaries - looks like you have to be a registered user (ie dealer) to get the full report.
BTW, scrolling down the bottom there's a news report (30/01/12) that the T5 Transporter has begun SKD (Semi-knocked down) assembly in Jakarta,
Indonesia. I hadn't seen that one before. It says for the 'local market' so there probably won't be any opportunity to import them to Australia.

A factory restoration would probably be like we do at our work for Austin Healeys. The brand name makes no difference, the amount of work is still the
same, and the factory restorations at my work are about $100K - $150K

OK.......... now I'm convinced. I should have just googled vw press releases when I was looking, instead, I just typed in VW AG and followed links
from there.

Matt.

There are restorations.....and then there are restorations......
How is someone going to know the quality and accuracy of a 'Factory' restoration? Are the cars in the VW museum a sample of the quality and
accuracy?

I would say that we are local.
Our local agent is Singapore.
I read it on samba, so it must be correct.
Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!
