Removal of IRS arms - stubborn bolt.
Am trying to remove the IRS swing arms but the bolt seems a tad stubborn. Is there a specific tool for the job or do I just need a bigger one for more
leverage. I am using an 18mm(or 19 cant remember) bolt with welded on nut, which fits well just wont budge it. I tried it with a lit bit of heat also
without any luck.
Any suggestions ?

mmmm, try harder....maybe purchase a 17mm allen tool, I have one which is 1/2" drive, stick a breaker bar on there and bam...it's gone.... Make your own version by welding your 17mm bolt to some flat bar/pipe or
whatever, to get a long lever happening.....
Around the perimeter of the bolt there are 3 grooves that the rim gets punched into as a lock for the bolt, sometimes a little impact on this edge
with a knockometer will help unfreeze the bolt.

17mm allen tool is a cheap and worthwhile investment. As Matt said, more leverage, once you 'crack' the tension seal you will remove it a lot
easier.

Hi
As Matt said get the 17 mm with 1/2 drive, they also fit the transmission fill & drain plugs.
Once you get it loose they take quiet a few turns to get them out, I use a section of 17 mm allen key with a ratchet ring spanner.
Your going to be using a lot force, make sure that the car wont fall off the stands.

I had one recently that was really stubborn. Ended up finally cracking with a 4-5ft long pipe as a lever, not sure what I would have done without a
hoist!

Where do You get those knockometers from mat??
looked on ebay but none for sale...
My Son, a few years ago, had a problem with one of those coming loose all the time...
replaced the bushes... I'll bet He didn't crimp the outer lip..??
probably because He couldn't find a knockometer at the time

success...
Well am pleased to advise that those stubborn little bastards didnt win today - I fuelled up on weetbix and found my 17mm allen key tool that I had
bought from Micks a few years back. A quick trip down to repco to add to my breaker bar range, and then hopped into it. They certainly put up a fight
- right to the end - I reckon it took about 30 minutes of solid work to get them out -good thing I dont have to do that everyday..
