vw beetle help
have just bought a vw in pieces to finish,just trying to find what year it is,can'"t find a compliance plate"numbers stamped in chassis is 5200338
motor number is ab944280 was told it is a 1600 twin port, bit i think going on numbers it is a 1300 twin port. any help would be greatly
appreciated,my 17 year old son has bought the car, he is vw nuts

its a 1963 model approx.. have a look on the back of the speedo should be a date stamp like 3.63
or 3.1963
looking for My engine info...
engine is a APPROX 1973 model..
AB 0,699,002 TO AB 0,990,000
yes its a twin port 1300 engine...
unless its been changed to 1600 cylinders??

thanks for info,it certainly will be a challenge,but also will be rewarding.that may wll be the case with motor, as guy we bought it of swears it is a
1600. is it normal to have no compliance plate?

nothing really to be compliance, no seat belts etc.
just need a engine number and chassis.

Cars didn't have to have compliance plates until the early 70's. I think it was 1972 when they all had to have one.

my 1975's compliance plate was lost when the car was restored by previous owner 7 years ago.
I changed rego in different state - no real problem
A 1300 twin port goes real good. Real good. They were not that common. Most people see the twin port manifold and just "assume" its a 1600

If the engine has been rebuilt within the last 20 years there is a pretty good chance it's a 1600 now anyway.
THe 1300 twinport heads and cylinders havent been available for a long time where as 1600 heads and cylinders bolt straight on, give a power increase
and a readily available so most rebuilders make the swap.
