Finally received a reply back from Scat saying I can send the "Solex" carbs back for a credit and that they sold 250 engines in 2014 without issues.
I emailed back asking if they meant refund or credit and whether they can address my point that they aren't actually genuine. Waiting for a
reply.
Incredible feeling to be back on the road. Completely different car. Suspension is absolutely fantastic. I'm keeping revs between 2000 and 3000
for the run in and in 500km it's oil swap time. I calibrated the speedometer (initiate test run mode, drive 1km or 1 mile exactly and set the
marker).
I'm going to swap the location of the tacho and speedo. The tacho is currently centered and very easy to read while the speedo is slightly behind
the wheel. I'd rather have clear vision of the speedo!
Flush handle on driver's side needs to be adjusted as it's preventing the remote lock mechanism from locking. I learned very quickly how easy it is
to press buttons on the Viper remote in my pocket or as I pick it up. This means it would be VERY easy to remote start the car and if it was in gear
this would be a very bad thing! Luckily the remote has a button lock feature!
Everything else is functioning as well as can be expected and I'm loving the experience!

-Door trims made up and fitted in charcoal with black speaker surrounds. The only thing missing are the inner door level surrounds. I'm still
waiting for them to arrive from CIP1
-Pioneer TS-A1685S splits installed in front doors and Pioneer TS-A1605C drivers installed in the rear on either side of the bench seat.
-Pioneer TS-W311D4 sub installed in sealed enclosure in parcel area
-Ditched the two 'dinosaur' 4 channel and 2 channel amplifiers (pictured) and installed JL Audio XD700 5V2, 5 channel amplifier which is about a

I haven't snapped a pic of the new amp installed yet

Update soon. New EMPI Ultra HPMX 40mm dual carburetors are being installed this week as an upgrade to the piss-poor Solex (copies) that came with the
engine.

Installed EMPI ULTRA HPMX 40mm dual carburetors. The performance increase over the Solex is insane. I have no idea why Scat shipped the engine with
them. Well I guess I do... to save money!
Some extra engineering has been done to extend the accelerator linkage, made in stainless (see pic) but everything just fits and looks great.
We're not there yet though... there's now so much fuel being dumped into the engine that there is too much backfiring. So to fix that curve, I'm
ordering this distributor and ignition module (I'm still consulting with MSD).

Just an update for everyone.
Long story short is due to some dodgy mechanical work done by a mechanic who worked on the car, I had an engine fire a few weeks back. Damage to the
engine cover, body to the left of the rear window, engine bay and smoke in the interior.
It's seen as a write-off so I'm getting a payout from my insurer and because the car is over 35 years old, I get to keep it as well.
So I'm selling it. I'll update within a week or two with information in case anyone here wants to buy it as a project to get it
running again or strip it for (essentially all new) parts.

Forensic investigator wasn't able to pinpoint the exact cause (because he would have to strip absolutely everything to do this) but it's too
coincidental that I had it running fine for a year and then 10km after getting it back from a repairer (who removed the 15 second relay on the
electric pump) it catches fire on that side of the engine bay.

My car is now up for sale for someone to finish the work or strip it for pretty much all brand new parts. Despite the amount of effort and money put
in, I do not want to continue with the repair process. I'll look at creating a thread just for the sale. This thread can serve as information on
the car but any interested parties should feel free to get in touch with me for any more information.
The damage is confined to the engine cover, passenger side of the engine bay and body in the same area.
So far, the car has had over $100k of work done by O&S during the full restoration and over $6000 of new parts from CIP1.com as well as $275 for
each of the 5 (one spare) Dub Drone 5 wheels.
The engine was purchased from Scat VW in the US and these carbs were installed a few months ago (although one is now damaged):
