 Volkswagen Racing Australia (Pics Please!!)

(Renamed the thread so that we can get everyones stories in here without it being exclusive to rallying etc...)

Hi,

found these photos of the old 1300 Targa Bug that Guy Harding campaigned and was in the first issue of VWMA.

 http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.191572330878759.37298.18013179868947...

I've been looking for photos of Australian rallying dubs, does anyone have pictures they could add?

Looking for ones of Andrew Dodd in the 80's and Barry Ferguson in the 1967 rally, but if not I'd love to see what everyone has!

Cheers

Shaun

Here's some ones from what i've found on Australian racing VeeDubs in general, but as you can see it's hard to get rally shots!

Great link,
is there anyone out there rallying bugs these days?
I saw one in an autocross in 2011 at willowbank QLD but can't think of any in rallying. I looked into building a VW bug or Karmann for historic
rallying but unfortunately under the rules you would never really be competitive so I've had to go with another brand.

Dirt,

Adam DeBiasi had this green bug which he used to rally, shown in the Classic Adelaide Rally below. I'm pretty sure it was a modified engine, I think
from memory it was about a 2 litre type 1, running aftermarket EFI through a custom manifold with a single Falcon throttle body. The last time I saw
it run would have been a few years ago now, but I'm not sure, he might still be running it.

There are a couple of bugs running in khanacross and rallysprints in South Australia, or at least there used to be. All of them are generally S-Bugs.

Graham Vanderhoek has been campaigning his successfully in motorkhana and khanacross for years. It's a modified 1600cc engine, still registered and
driven on the street as well as to events.

The Southam family have also been competing in their heavily modified bug for many years, but I think it's off the road at the moment. That used to
do rallysprints but recently I think it's been mostly restricted to khanacross. There are a couple of others in the VW Club of SA who run dirt
khanacross in bugs, but nobody with deep enough pockets to do a full season of rallying in one!

I have an S-Bug and would love to one day run it in historic rally. I wouldn't be doing it to win rallies, just to enjoy it and to run as fast as I
can. Khanacross in my old 1500 Beetle is the closest I have gotten so far!

Thanks for the pics of my green bug above. I've still got it and run it in mainly hillclimbs now. Although I plane to do some Tarmac rallys next
year. It's powered by a weber fed 2332cc.
Cheers Adam

The last photo is yours truly, in 'The Esses' at Bathurst, Easter 1963.

Easter next year will be 50th anniversary of my first race at Bathurst, and I look like getting a drive at the Easter meeting. Looking forward to
it.

This is cool too, but I must say I was thrown by the american accent. They also don't have a narrowed beam with 135 tyres which is unusual for
