[WTB - QLD] Type 3 Ghia "Razor"


Are there any Type3 ghia's for sale in Aust. Looking for a ghia to restore. I'm not in any rush but would like to find out if any in OZ before I look into importing.

As much as i would like to own one, there are no parts available for them such as rubbers, makes them hard to restore.

Hey Jason I know of a couple ones a full project but it's a matching numbers 1500 S with a shit load of nos stuff probally 10k plus worth of parts!Call me tomorrow some time and I'll pass on the numbers.

type 3 ghia's


Have had a long standing interest in these as well, have a look at a site called T34 world. Lots of info, great support offered from the T34 owners it seems, even parts sourcing tho do not expect too much here in Oz!

good man, thanks heaps. We're well thanks mate, too cold to get in the water down here so just been seeing some bands, working hard & staying warm. My 58 beetle is still cruizing the northern beaches down here, getting a new steering box put in next week & then once i can get my hands on a squareback i'll probably think about selling it. Too many wants mate & not enough cashola. Anyway take care mate & i'll pass on the howdy to Sal.

LIMITED parts are available....try, karmannghia.de for a start,
The samba & a lot of UK sites are good for 2nd hand parts,
you can get stuff, but you have to have a LOT of patience !

I just received a box of parts for my Ghia today from karmannghia.com and they have no parts for the type 34, go to the site and there are only early ghia parts listed also i spoke to the owner of,

and he stated that there are no parts available for the type 34 and that he had done a resto on one and had major problems getting repair panels, rubbers, trim, ect, ect and had to make most parts, all very well if you are capable yourself but it all adds up when you are paying $120 an hour. i stand by what i said.

.....I have been down this path & purchased some parts required.....

. please re-read the web address VERY CAREFULLY....

......i agree that you will most probably not be able to get parts from that AUSTRALIAN supplier
( who is very helpful )....

..that is why i had to get them from Germany !

Not trying to argue with you, just help with what i have experienced

I've restored a couple of Type 34's, and it is true that some parts are hard to get. Most of the trim is unique to the Type 34 and so is not interchangeable with other models. But, the internet is a great thing, and with a little patience you will be able to find everything you need. Of course, given that you cannot simply buy repro parts, good used parts and NOS stuff usually carries a higher price tag, so you need to factor this into the resto.

There are many rubber parts being repro'd, and many other parts available, even some sheet metal is now being reproduced. The key is knowing where to look, and unfortunately Australia doesn't generally fall into this realm. There are also some rubber parts that can be modified from the Type 14. Biggest issue is usually dash pads, interior arm rests and door cappings (all of the black vinyl parts), these crack in the sun or the mountings corrode out from the rear. If they are missing or trashed you will have a hard time finding them. Usual answer is to trim them or look at reproducing them yourself. (I believe that there is a guy here in SA who can recover them).

I would advise anyone with an interest in Type 34's to go join The Type 34 Registry - http://www.type34.com  We are the longest running Type 34 site and have a great network of members. You can usually find someone with what you need. The mailing list is also a good source of info too.

What Mike said.... I've had mine for a while now, found most of what I needed overseas to get it complete.... Rubber came from a few sources including Steffen... All good so far.... Some of the repop stuff is rubbish, some of it is extremely good.... And parts are always scarey expensive, but it pays to be involved in the forums.... I'm a member of both T34 forums and both have been very helpful.
