new user - need help identifying carb
Hi all
I have just gotten my first Beetle today!
I've coveted a beetle for years but never had the dough on hand when a cheapie was available - but someone at my workplace put a for sale ad on the
noticeboard for an unroadworthied beetle for a reasonable price.
 
Its been resprayed by the PO in a colour called Brocade Yellow. Not sure I like it tbh.
The ad posted for it said it was a 66, then when I got out there to have a look, they told me it was a 62.
Going by the chassis number though, its a 67 (197760719 - identified using clubvw.org.au's list) - which makes me a bit wary of what they've done to
it if they dont even know what year it was!
They also said it had an "upgraded engine" but were unable to tell me in what way it was "upgraded" -_-
Looking at the number stamped below the generator mount it seems like its had an engine swap from a 64 Kombi? O970235P was the number which is
apparently a 1500 with no cam bearings.... What does that mean lol?
I've never done much to the cars I've owned before either apart from the basic filter/oil/water changes, and taken them to mechanics to be serviced,
so this will be a learning exerience.
Also, I have no idea what this carburettor is, I don't think its a normal VW one?

Hi mate! Welcome to the forum. The bug looks nice.
I'm pretty sure the carb is a Weber DCN. Not the DCNF. I believe the DCN is out of production now, but everyone I've spoken to who used them back in
the day says that they're good carbs. Ferrari used them so they can't be that bad!

I think the carby isa progressive webber not bad one butterfly open up then at the half way mark the second butterfly opens to allow more air flow
good for there time
Also remove that so called air scoop on the rear air vents they restrict air flow to the engine

Ah, thanks guys that gave me somewhere to start googling.
I suspect it may be possibly be the DFEV kit at the top of this page http://scatvw.com/master/carb_kits/ as it has the same manifold and air cleaner as in the pic - will have a poke around
tomorrow and see if I can find a model number anywhere.

from memory the numbers you are looking for are up against the fan housing. so you will need to take off the carb to see them. should be a 32/36 dgva

you have the better manifold as its heated almost al around the unit.
had one of these years ago. worked well alot of grunt. sold it when i upgraded the engine. they do love the juice though. im betting on its a twin
barrel progressive with manual secondary.
the vacuum secondary was an improvement but webber never made one to fit this style, empi and a few others did. mine came off a lada which was a copy.
