FS NSW: 1974 Beetle

A 1974 factory ‘Mellow Yellow’ Beetle. Originally purchased by previous owner, a Lake Macquarie family, from Lanock motors in Sydney in 1973. Purchased from my mechanic Ben Durie in mid 2007. Original 1300 motor was cactus, so I purchased a brand new 1600 mexican motor from Mick Motors (QLD) and then set to work on a five year restoration, not as a show car, but kept as a daily driver. It has mostly original paint, with some re-spray over the years.

A really good car, mechanically sound, regularly serviced by Ben Durie Automotive, Teralba, a daily driver. Suit enthusiast and/or someone looking to buy their first beetle with absolutely nothing to do. Registered until May 2013.

Features:

1600 twin port VW (Mexico) Factory Motor – original 65,000km (purchased 2007)
Twin solex (pdsit 34) Type 3 carbies with CSP German linkage
New Vintagespeed stainless exhaust (purchased November 2011)
Heaterboxes (purchased in 2007)
Vacuum advance distributor with Pertronix ignitor electronic ignition, Bosch Coil, new fuel pump
Chrome Alternator
Original seats, front reupholstered with in original style (TMI basket weave tan and seat pads); rear are original – no rips or tears.
Empi trigger shift
Original swing axle gearbox – tight and great shifting
New carpet
Empi 8 spoke mags with GT Radial 195/60/15 tyres
New front disc brakes (with EPC green pads); and new flexible brake hoses
Blue Perspex and aluminium sun visor
New front guards (2011)
Rear venetian
New front windscreen and ¼ vent window rubbers and door outside scrapers
New running boards
New bumper rubber impact strips
New seat belts front and rear (front inertia belts)
Floor pans replaced over the past 3 years
Ball joints, steering damper, steering coupling and tie rods all replaced in 2007.
New master cylinder (German ATE), replaced April 2012
New Odyessy dry cell battery
Chrome vents on bonnet and rear decklid
Tinted

Original headlining, in ok condition, some holes and some wear
Rust – is confined to two sections (1) near drivers door, and (2) under bonnet, with stone chips here and there across the bonnet and front. The rear valance has suffered some bumps and bruises over the years.

for anyone interested in this car the owner is a bit ocd and everything that can be greased or rebuilt has been. drives like a dream , no knocks or funky noises, everything works and is a pleasure to drive. this would be the best beetle i,ve driven (except for the ones i build myself of course:starhit:). seriously though it is an awesome little machine.

ALL GOOD THINGS HAPPEN IN NEWCASTLE. JUST ASK A NOVACASTRIAN ::ninja::ninja::ninja:!!
