reminds me of when I was a kid.
I grew up in Albany Creek, brisbane. we used to go swimming at Leach's crossing, between albany creek and strathpine. the property that backed
onto the swimming hole was maybe 12-15ft higher than the creek and they used to push all their junk over the edge. and half up and half down the pile
of dirt and assorted other scrap was a split window beetle shell. just a bare shell, but I dont remember it looking incredibly rusty or damaged, but
definately had that battered abandooned look (even apart from lying on the edge of a landfill).
some years later I remembered the car once I learnt what a split window beetle was actually worth, and how rare they are in Oz, and went back there
(had moved to sydney by then) but it was gone. I'd say someone else recognised it's value too
