Swing axle to irs
I have a 68 floorpan and want to add IRS suspension. I see that you can get conversion kits (Bracket) and it also means modifying the frame horns to
accommodate the cv joints.
Is it possible to unstitch the irs rear end complete and attach to the 68 floorpan
Don't want to add torsion bar front framehead to the later chassis. Could run into too many problems with ADR rules
If this conversion can be done as requested any ideas on how to get all the dimensions and alignment correct

However the info is mainly on conversions with the bracket welded in or the bus bolt on conversions
I should have mentioned that I have a beetle and want to do a transplant of the complete irs rear end onto the swing axle pan. Do not want to use any
of the swing axle parts
I dont know if this can be done but would like to get an exploded view of the swing axle and irs rear ends to see if i can stitch the irs rear end
on.
Has any body done this and was it acceptable for engineers to pass

I have a complete rolling 73 L bug rear suspension and also a bare rear end with arms in Taree if interested.

The quickest and best way is to weld the brackets on to the torsion bar housings, i think you are making work for yourself. the only difference beween
the two rear ends are the brackets, if you had a earlier pan then you would run into issues with the shock towers requiring clearencing for the spring
plates.

As above. 2 main thing need to change for IRS conversion. 1. Weld in brackets need to be added to the existing chassis. 2. Heat the frame horns where
the CVs sit and bash/bend/hammer/carefully Clarence enough Clarence for the CVs to rotate freely. Then bolt in IRS Box and IRS spring plates and
longer torsion arms in and diagonal arms. DONE!
The brackets will effect your rear geometry so they need to be put in the right angle etc... Get this part right.

Give Nils on here a PM as I borrowed a Jig he'd made from an IRS rear end.
Otherwise you'll have to find a local VW owner that you can borrow their Bug to make the jig on.
