Introducing my as yet un-named T3 wagon...

Howdy all,

Seeing as this is my first post on this forum, I thought I may as well introduce you all to my ride... but first a quick sad story to explain the many um, quality lapses, on this one.

I previously had another square, a 73, that i bought when i was 17 and spent 2 years worth of weekends tinkering on it before he ["albert"] hit the road.
Those weekends included a full strip down, and pretty much ground up rebuild, lots of new-ish bits and lots of elbow grease, and a full respray in eye-melting yellow over white two-tone.
I clocked up craploads of miles in it, and was the toast of the town with my 'what the hell is that' mobile.
The 'albert' title came from the "PHAT" numberplates i had on it [you know, hey hey its faaaat albert...]

It was my number one toy, until late last year when some dick here on a holiday ran through a roundabout and straight into my read quarter...in a rental car...and then drove off. This all happened overnight, while i was sound asleep inside my house and my car was parked on the street. sigh.
He later owned up, and i got a couple of grand insurance money, but it was a write-off - buckled the roofline. [he was driving a corolla so i dontknow how he drove away!]

so anyway, I then took my insurance money an locked myself in my parents garage until i had another cruise-worthy ride. A month after purchasing a '71 beater from Volksking i had put in 30 days solid work [its handy being self employed] and ended up with this new one for around 3 grand total.

Rough as guts when it comes to detailing, but good enough when she drives past to score a few looks, this is my new rock-mobile.

running a tired and pretty much stuffed 1835 and stock rims/tyres/carbies etc. it gets me from a to b, but regularly puts up a fight...

It clocks up loads of miles around Melbourne, so if you see me, gimme a wave.

I'll also upload a pic or two of Albert before he left me for the big garage in the sky...

Over and out.

[the yellow one is Albert, the Black one doesnt have name yet...]

The lower half is pretty much an apricot colour. It has some transparent red in it, so later in the day it 'blushes' to almost pink... a completely custom colout i kinda made up on the spot and got mixed at Paintmobile in Preston...
due to the mix and remix process i now have over 4 litres of it left over.. so i'll do something with that one day.

My avatar is taken from the press shots for the late T3, but with my recolouring [from red] in Photoshop... I run a multimedia company, so thats my thing... and the only reason i stumbled across the black/apricot combo...after seeing it i was sold, but always get the same "what the" look when i explain it to people...

anyhow... here's Albert all smashed up.

Nice paint job on the type 3 Variant....
Shame about the other one....
I suppose that is why Shannons the insurance people like to have their insured cars locked up safely at night time

Thanks guys...

[68autobug] - Its a bit of a strange reason, but i'll explain it anyway... I suppose you all know the 80s golf flick Caddyshack? Well, i'm a bit of a crazed fan of it, and the lead character's name is Danny Noonan. There have been noonan injokes bounced around my family for years... so when it came time for me to name my newly formed Multimedia company, NoonanStudios was it.
[so now i get emails to "steve noonan" all the time... and dont bother explaining to people why]

oh, and the house i was living at had no garage, so i was stuck with streetside parking. not anymore though. the new one is off the streets an tucked away at night.

[phatbug] - i hope it wasnt too late in the year that you were looking for my plates, as i havent had them on a car since November. They're kinda for sale now, best offer, i have em in the Selling forum here now...

ah, the speech bubble.
That was an emailed pic to tell my friends my car was dead... the funniest quote was gonna get a cruise in the new one or something.. but i only got 2 attempts, and neither of them were funny.

thanks for the comments guys, looks like my plan to have an individual, yet still good looking colour scheme has done its job.

see you on the streets...

hey kustom...

yeah, i get alot of that... people in sunbury asking why i repainted it...
i can see why, as they're both late models, same wheels, accessories etc...

the black paint job was a rush job, so i have plans to respray it at regular intervals with different bottom half colours... green, beige etc. maybe even an all black look... but i think i'll wait until summer before i start sanding and spraying again.

** currently respraying a 1978 mazda 323 hatch for my sister... all black, with some flames planned... hafta wait until that is done and outta the way.

hey skewy.... yeah cos i live in north melb and my T3 is my dsaily driver, they get parked and driven all over the place...

i was paranoid for a while about parking it dark streets etc, but once i got a detachable faced stereo, then i figured there wasnt much people would wanna steal off it, and if they took the whole car it shouldnt be too hard to spot driving around....

the shell of the yellow one is still in my back yard in sunbury.
i stripped the chrome off of it for the new build, and used the engine/shocks brakes etc. as they were all in good condition...

Its destined for a wreckers soon, i'll strip off things like the dash/gauges/side glass etc but the body is twisted and no good to anyone... unlsess they want to cut off the front half [but its a late model, and not that desirable]

thanks again for the compliments...

twt tone does rule in my opinion, i just cant see em in any other way now...
i want to build a rat one next, but i dunno how i'm gonna swing rat two tone, unless i find one somewhere....

when u mix the paint put too much setter in so it reacts then give it a light rub over the bubbles and a very thin coat of clear to 'protect'

thats what i have been thinking lately !
