Twin ct12b turbos on 2666cc t4??
Hi
I'm busy with a long term project... the engine is a 2666cc type 4 high compression methanol setup.
The turbos I've already got is two toyota ct12b from a 2jzgte vvti engine. Has anyone got experience with these turbos? Or am I wasting my time and
should just go single.
Max boost for now will be around 7psi.
The idea is to build two exhaust manifolds linking cylinder 1-3 to one turbo and cylinder 2-4 to the other turbo.

From memory they were a bit fragile due to ceramic turbine wheels or something, but I think that only showed as an issue at higher boost. Don't quote
me though!

I think they are equipped with ceramic turbine wheels, but yes they only give hassles at high boost applications

Gday.
I used to have a tweaked 1JZ-GTE in a full-weight Soarer auto that did low-12s @ over 120 on radials using CT12s, lots of spin out of the hole but a
screaming top speed. I also ran around in a stock JZA80 Supra (1995 2JZ-GTE) for a year, and I currently own a mild JZA70 Supra (1991 1JZ-GTE). The
Supra is to get me around for the next couple of years until I can get my Superbug finished.........Not as quick (not in the same galaxy actually!),
but I love my dak-daks.
Anyway, CT12s.
They are really efficient, spool up on a 2.5L - 3.0L motor almost instantly. The 1JZ/2JZ TT motors have NO lag, nothing, Toyota really did their
homework on this set-up. From idle punch all the way to over 7000, they just pull like a train. Try to keep the pipes to feed the turbos REALLY SHORT,
then they will work as designed for this size motor.
However........
They have ceramic turbine wheels, so as standard they are limited to less than 1Bar or 14.7psi, 13psi and they will last for well over 200000km. On a
TT JZ they are good for 250rwkW stock. If you need more airflow, you can machine the compressor side to run T3 wheels, then they are good to 300rwkW,
still under 1Bar. If you need more, you can find (harder nowadays, they're a bit older) steel turbine wheels out of Toyota Surf diesels that will
safely go to well over 1.5Bar, and that with the T3 compressor wheels will give you nearly 400rwkW.
Uhm, yes, THAT much! All you need is a fuel pump, FMIC, exhaust and piggyback, then stand back and watch them destroy tyres like it's some sort of
personal vendetta against rubber.
Gotta love Supra's!
For your 2.6L motor, bloody good pick.

Cool. Thanks for the info. Now I feel beter about the whole story.
Ideally I wanted to use a single Garrett gt35. But my budget does not allow for that kind of money to be spent right now

Oh. OK.
Sorry for the marketing blurb then, coz if that's the case then the Toyota CT15 will probably suit your needs better then.
They come into the import wreckers all the time, they are originally off the 1JZ-GTE VVT, fitted to Soarer's from 1995 onwards. They are a really
good single turbo, on a JZ motor make as much HP as twin CT12s but with a slight lag, but are capable of 250kW again stock. Ceramic turbines, so still
keep it under 1Bar for longevity.
Should be able to source them at import wreckers for $400 or less ready to go, or if you do a bit of homework direct ex-Japan from a freight
forwarder/buyer for 1/2 that.
