body on floor pan replacement

Doing a body on floor fix on my bug and a lot of the tutorials I've seen a brace is welded across the cab. Is this 100% necessary to stop the body from becoming uneven etc.

Are you replacing the pan halves or the heater channels? no need to brace for pan half replacement, and its not hard to take a body off, makes it so much easier to do everything and anything.
