1800 kombi engine rebuild ideas.
Hello all vdubbers
I am seeking advice re the rebuild of my 1800 motor
What can I do to get more torque/ grunt through the gears.??
I am not so mechanically minded with motors so any ideas would help.
Can bigger pistons be used??
will a cam change helP??
will different carbies do much??
cheers for now..Jacko

If your rebuilding the complete motor, chase up a 2 ltr crank & 2ltr piston assembly (1800 piston assemblies are more expensive to buy than 2ltr)
rebuild your 1800 heads, rebuild & re jet your carbs or as previously mentioned, update your carbs to Webers, a mild cam& an external
oil cooler and your good to go , but hey it all depends on your finances, good luck cheers Frank

no need for an external cooler on a reasonable stock motor.

Thanks for making the effort to reply guys..
Its much appreciated.
I really long to have an engine that goes well.
Its no fun having an embarrasing motor when the holden and ford bogans are hanging at the local workshop!
cheers Jacko

If you dont mind machining then a set of 103mm pistons is a good idea.
Keep the 66mm crank and you have a 2.3L motor
I know a lot of people prefer the 66 crank to the 71
Something to do with rod ratios of the 66 being better
Keep the rest of it stock and you will have a good torquey bus motor
You will need a set of IDF or DRLA and a better exhaust

66x103 is only 2.2L
And I would also recommend converting to a 71mm stoke 2L crank.
It's basically free capacity for no extra work as it's just a drop in part.
You will also need to get some 2L rods to match the crank.
