Brasilia's
Hi all,
Not sure where this belongs in here, but I have a '74 Brasilia on its way from Brazil and wanted to ask if there are any others known in Australia?
Mine should be here in a few months.
Here are some pics....

Yep Brasilias were just a standard Beetle floor pan and even an upright type1 engine, basically Brazils attempt at a type 3.
the 411/412 were bigger and available in 4 door and didnt have a floor pan, they were uni body design with a strut front end and pancake type4
engine.

ah ok, that kinda sucks.
Joel, what do you mean Brazil's attempt at a type 3, they already have their own actual type 3.
this looks like a bug with a type 4 body on it lol
does anyone know if there are any actual type 4s here and what that would be worth?

Dunno about any 412s but there is a few 411s kicking around.
The IT guy for the Refrigeration company I used to work at had one, he brought it back from PNG in the 70s and it was his wifes daily for over 20
years.
I got offered it when he sold it, I was really impressed by how it drove but just couldnt live with how ugly it was let alone trying to get parts.
Its been through a forum members on here since then, I know Ray owned it for while.
And if you are meaning these ugly things, its same shit different bucket, they were the earlier Brazilian type 3s, bit of a flop and stopped making
them in the mid 70s, they kept making the Brasilias into the mid 80s

Vlad, years ago you were replying on a post re the Graveyard at Barnawartha (actually posted on 18/6/2010 at 01:08 PM!!!) On that post it is noted
that there is a 411 hiding in one of the sheds. I haven't seen Eddy Lang for a few years but just maybe the 411 is still there!

Not really a type 3 Joel
they were more like Brasillian Golfs.. lol
I thought they looked great..
they were much shorter and lighter than the type three
More like the beetle in length etc..
with beetle running gear..
sadly there are very few left I believe..
as they would have been made similar to the brasillian Beetle
.. much lighter steel.. and prone to rust...
Brasil did make a type 3 sedan [notch]
but did a terrible job with the front body/headlamps etc..
LEE
I saw a few 411s about around 1970..
Most came from PNG..
the 412 was a huge improvement in looks... IMHO..
always wanted a 4 door Air Cooled VW.. lol

the 411 & 412 would be very hard to get parts for..
I remember seeing a photo of one in a UK book on VWs and it didn't even have bumpers on it.. lol
front guards/fenders/wings made from fibreglass were available in the UK many years ago...
I believe they were very expensive cars.. one reason they weren't sold in Australia...

also read where the 411 didn't appear in the USA until 1971 when the car it was supposed to go up against [corvair] was already no longer made..
it was regarded as under powered and had very poor fuel economy..
the engine was upgraded in size a few times

Thanks for all info & replies guys. The Brasilia will be a rather unique and rare car on Aussie roads. Makes it even cooler in my eyes. Should be
a fun car to cruise in once here in a month or so. Really looking forward to it!

they would a great track.hill climb car though.
they have all the gear for great handling and performance potential.
Thats why I would love one, but as a daily driver thats pretty risky as you would be stuck for a while if it dies and parts are NLA.
interestingly a lot of NOS part to be found for these, more so than the type 3 imho.
I know where to buy doors, hatches, panels electrical parts etc.. all nos for these cars. So cosmetically yes you can find part with some effort,
engine wise not so much as type 4 engine are already going down hill to china. but there is always suby engines for the future.
