I am no expert on type 3's but I dont believe I have ever seen a single carb on one??

Well - here is one
http://recarb.com.au/type3-2brl-carburetor-p-38.html?osCsid=263679d2f94ba2e8a...

But it reads as though you have to cut the engine cover

I would certainly think about a set of dual IDF or DRLA carbs
You will need shorty manifolds

Either that or seriously think about getting your original carbs rebuilt and a new linkage set up

Don't get new webers, well the 44's I've had were porous, won't get UNLESS they're Italian. Try some decades off Rod if he has, same fit as IDF.

cant beat stock carbs, just have them rebuilt, you dont want to change performance so i dont see a point in buying new ones, a freshen up is always good

Fuel pump you say, I have a facet barrel type that has a filter within the housing, you can empty it, but......I do have a filter before it and I have the pump below the tank.
The pressure on my gauge out the back to the carbines is approx 3 psi which is good.

I personally would do away with the carbs and dizzy and go for EFi. either MS or delco based system.

theres nothing wrong with stock carbs if there looked after and setup right , vw werent idiots .. just make sure all surfaces are flat where a gasket sits and shafts are within tolerance , i've converted the linkage to aftermarket ones and changed out the solenoids on the side to fixed jets make sure the carbs are balanced and motors run sweet .
