Bay kombi door locks

My bay has the earlier type door locks in the handle. Is it easy to convert them to the later type pull up mechanism without replacing the whole door or mech? Is it as simple as drilling a hole for the pull knob and swapping the rods over, then fitting the one piece door pull? I keep hitting the locks with my knee and my passenger door has a hole for the other knob so obviously it can be converted the other way.

Secondly, on the 73/74 models with the small shroud for the ignition switch and the switch that fits in sideways, how on earth do you remove the whole ignition switch? I can take the electrical part out but cannot get the whole thing to come out. I have the shroud off the column, have removed the grub screws and the mechanism moves but there seems to be no physical way it can come out? Any tips?

Removing the ignition switch is a pain in the butt. I used the method in the link below to remove mine. Hooking the barrel lock is a bit fiddly. Hope this helps.

Thanks Jason. That switch looks similar so I'll try that and see if it works.

I will have the quarter windows out today if the weather holds off and send some pics to you later on.
