Alternate seats for 60s Beetle - what will fit, what have others used?
After trying unsuccessfully to find some proper front seats for my bug (66 model) I am left with the option of finding something else that will fit or
can be made to fit, be it VW or not. I have a brown vinyl rear which is fine, I need some fronts. Obviously helps if it reclines for rear access.
Someone has started by welding sliders (from something unknown) onto the top of some original seat frames, so I can easily cut off and weld on sliders
appropriate to whatever seat I end up fitting, that will allow the use of the original floor pan seat mounts.
What I need to know is what seats will fit? Obviously I'm not the first to do this so please chime in if you have used something in your bug, either
successfully or not. I've seen people use Honda seats and I think the owner of this one was going to use Pajero ones. Some will be too wide so short
of taking maximum sizes and wrecker shopping, anyone willing to help narrow it down by throwing some names into the ring? Or does anyone have some bug
seats that they want to sell (I've had this in the wanted section a while now) as even the swap at the abbey failed to yield anything except a bumper
bar and some glass I needed.
Another unrelated but still bug interior question - what goes down the sides of the door openings to cover over those vicious teeth that are used to
hold the trim on? I'm guessing some kind of pinch weld piece but what does it look like and where does one get it? Is there a name for it at all?

many people use subaru seats, I had a set in my 63 before resto and they sat quite low so i chose to re trim a pair of originals.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I should have added I'm trying to do this on a budget and originality is not an issue, just that they must fit
Something where I can also get a matching rear seat so that I can reupholster my rear in the same material would help too. I'd love to be able to
find a set of original seats for it but unless they are $100 or less, that won't work for me. Most wreckers seem to run at about $50 a seat which is
fair if the seast suit and are good, it just helps to be able to take some of the guesswork out of it because you usually can't return them once
purchased.

I have used the following seats in either Beetle or Type 3. They all fit well, are comfy (although that's a personal thing obviously).
Datsun 180B Coupe.
Datsun 120Y coupe.
Toyota Corolla coupe from the '70s.
Toyota Corolla hatchback from the mid-90s.
Mitsubishi Scorpian.
Mitsubishi Colt.
Easy-peasy.

Just picked up a really nice pair of 90s Honda civic coupe seats. Similar to VW060's green Bug shown above. Should do the trick I'm hoping. Let the
cutting and welding begin.....

The ones in my green car have a simple 4 bolt mount, all i had to do was weld 4 tabs on the frame and add some gusets, the engineer passed them first
time.

I was hoping to try and use the old seat mounting bases. Someone had already welded runners to them so hopefully a little bit of reworking and
rethinking should mean that if someone wants to put it back to original they can do so easily. I hadn't considered other ways. Do yours attach to the
original runners on the pan?

I used both front seats and the rear seat from a Hyundai Coupe' 2005. The front seats fits perfectly, but it took me about 8 hours to testing and
welding, testing, welding till I got it in perfect. The rear seat was easier, just some small constructions.. it's easy to take out from the car,
just press a button to release it 
A "car guy" from Sweden, I love Vee Dubs and Porsche...
I'm also an Auto Electrician in my profession.
