VWinternationals update

What an adventure!!!
Finally unpacked everything from the Winters and recovered some of the sleep I lost during the week
The company of Michael Nash and Wally Penboss was heart warming and I saw many spectators (and racers) curiously examining the VW's throughout the weekend
Thanks to all the VW people that came around and said Hello
I have come to realise that camping once a year (at my age) is not my friend and neither are the racers who decide to test their tune-up at 9pm at night outside my tent. Thank you Michael for the loan of your "insulated" fully enclosed trailer (bedroom) for most of my stay.
Once again, Russell (Sarton) graciously loaned me a tow vehicle - this time a VW Amorok - Thanks Russell
The ever entertaining Rod (Richardson) was my crew for the weekend and I was very careful not to give away any secrets to him (my competition!!). I wonder if anybody believes that?

I hope I did the old blokes proud with .002, .006 and .030 lights in the five runs I had during the weekend. The other 2 lights were RED (-.068 first time trial and a -.015 in the second round).
As usual, all weekend I was battling clutch issues, however it showed signs of improvement with a 1.55 and a 1.57 sixty foot time on 2 passes.
With some recent updates to my REV6 Lumus clutch, I am sure I will fit it again soon for more development
There were 2 missed shifts (into 2nd gear) during the weekend so most of the time cards are lop-sided so I don't feel the need for posting them

After I saw my red light in the second round, I gave it s..t and did the best time of the weekend (11.756 @111.02 mph - the MPH is down by at least 2 MPH compared to similar runs in Sydney)
Congratulations to Michael for a new record in SS/C for speed and E/T - Hard work pays off

The next run for me is Round 4 of the Track Champs at Sydney Dragway next weekend (a week before the VW meeting) I'm glad to be home!!!!
I will let you all know next January if I do the Winter's again

Not too shabby.....for an old codger.

I'd rather wear a Beetle out by racing it than by polishing it!

Henry thanks for coming up and flying the VW flag. It was great to have three VW's at a national event of this calibre. I think our cars are appreciated by racers and spectators among a sea of V8's. (I believe in a field of 103 Super Sedans, I was the only four cylinder)
Although these events are expensive to enter and hard work to attend, win or lose, the satisfaction of competing outweigh the costs and entice you back for another year?

Well done Henry. It was good sit down and have a chat. Hopefully I can benefit from some of your racing wisdom.

I believe Michael, that only after you have competed at a Drag Meeting of this calibre among the V8's that you truly appreciate just what VW's and their Drivers are capable of and I know that at least some V8 Drivers have a new found respect for VW's
I heard that one Super Sedan driver had multiple disbelieving looks at your dial-in for the 1st Round of racing

As to coming back, let you know in January 2014 (after I find a motorhome!!)
