Dodgy horn!

Hey all!

My little Frankie has lost his voice (broken horn) - seems the contact point where steering wheel connects to the steering column is dodgy. Any suggestions on how to fix ?!

P.s does anyone know a reliable & skilled mechanic?!

does it work in some different positions of the steering wheel??
sometimes the copper ring wears done bit by bit.. I can't remember how the late flat collapsible steering wheel made contact??
The VW horn is connected to Power all the time the key is on..
it is earthed out thru the horn pad..

there is an earth wire going down thru the steering column and comes out the bottom. it is connected to one side of the round rubber piece.
another short wire on the other side of the rubber piece
earths the wire to a bolt.. just above the steering box..

Good Volkswagen mechanics are now few and far between..
most have retired..
put Your location with Your name etc so it shows up on every post and thread..

Younger mechanics usually have no idea about VWs...
as they are a Very different car,,, they were back in the 70os too..
different then and very different now..

You may live near a VW mechanic on here.. or at least someone who can fix or tune Your car..

cheers

LEE

Pull the steering wheel off and have a look at the contact. You will be able to tell easily.

I read it on samba, so it must be correct.

Sometimes Volkswagen dealers sell spare parts. Amazing isn't it!

You want an auto sparkle. I'm pretty skilled in all things auto electrical. At best it will be a clean and adjust, at worst rerun the wire and start again.

Where are you? Anywhere near Brisbane?

Yeah, I've had similar problems...always the connections!

On a lighter note....one day, my Bug just started blowing its horn, as I was driving...and kept going!! I pulled over, had to disconnect it, and no problems since. My girlfriend and neighbors loved it....they couldn't stop laughing!!
