How to shorten a clutch cable?
Hi There, just in the final stages of getting the drag car finished and I need to shorten the/a clutch cable. The peddles are now about 70mm back from
where they would normally be. I have a bit of a tube over the end ( temporary) till I can sort it.

Do you have anybody up there that makes cables from scratch? Or maybe a boat place could crimp an end on for you.
I use a place in Sydney called Conwire, maybe they could make one and sent it up http://www.conwire.com.au/

You need a chandeler, someone who makes cables for yachts etc, they can fit a new end to the cable
I dream of a day when a chicken can cross a road without being asked for it's motive!

I did this for a shortened buggy pan
snip the cable, ream the fork clean (pedal end) of the old cable, and sweat (braze) in the cable again
Keeping it real !

I can do it for you but you would have to get it down to me. I have the press with the dies at work. would just have to get an end fitting. If there 3
or 4mm thats no problem

Hi Jason
You can buy cable shorteners ??
hard to explain what they are..
made from a flat piece of steel bent over at each end to put the cable into, and in the centre, is a threaded piece with a thumb wheel..
You turn the thumb wheel and the threaded piece moves onto the cable and pushes it upwards.. to shorten the cable..
they are really made for adjustment and not sure it would go 70mms?
maybe there are different sizes, but it IS extra weight for your drag car..
the quick way which I have seen, is cut the cable and put them side by side for about 100mm and use wire clamps to tie them together..
just get the correct clamps for your wire.. they work good..
but are again extra weight.. lol but they are cheap and good to adjust your clutch / pedal etc..

Hi There,
I have been trying all sorts of things to shorten the cable and the two clamp idea was ok but just looked dodgy. I found at a stainless wire suplier a
clamp that is used on a balustrade (handrail) it works fine and time will tell if it lets go. (has to be pretty strong to stop someone falling through
a verandah etc.)
