Hydraulic clutch setups
Hi Guys and Girls, wondering if I can get people to post up some pics of their hydraulic clutch set-ups (the pedal end) Trying to decide to put the
master cylinder in the tunnel, or on the opposite side of the brake (other side of the tunnel) or maybe even above the brake master cylinder with some
funky bracketry.. Cheers for the help!

I have no photos but i moved the master cylinder over enough to fit a clutch master cylinder between the tunnel and the brake master cylinders
position, the clutch master cylinder must have the mounting bolts in the vertical plane, welded up the holes were the master cylinder was originally
fitted, and bored two new hole for both master cylinders, small modification to the brake pedal pivot and a pivot point attached to the clutch pedal.
worked great with easy access for maintenance and looks factory.

I've seen inside tunnel mounted ones b4 on Volkszone.com/VZi. Neat and tidy but takes more engineering than what VW060 has done.
If interested then searching that forum should yield results

I think he is talking about the saco ones. But I have heard bad things about their brackets and pushrod lengths etc..

Hi
I moved my master cylinder 25 mm to the right.
The 1302/1303 has an angled mounting position so its a little easier to move over before you run out of room.
I also had to move my pivot 25 mm over as well.

The ones I've seen done on Volkszone are home brewed installs using a name brand MC and custom brackets.
I've just come across them over the years from looking at readers rides and tech help on Volkszone cos been a member of that one for far longer than
this forum.

I love the simplicity of just moving the master cylinder over, but I don't want the engineer to have a spit when he sees that I have modified the
braking system.. Hmmm maybe it'll be better to design my own internal like the saco kit but using a generic repco master cylinder.. Thoughts? I
don't like the thought of fitting the in tunnel one though!!

Hi
I had 2 RTA engineers approve my master cylinder moving.
Working in the tunnel would be painful, but it could be done.
With my setup the structual part of the chassis is reineforced with a heavy peice of steel plate, its about twice as thick as the factory section. My
master cylinder bolts with a factory sleeve over them butt up against the factory steel section on the inside of the chassis and the outer plate I
fitted is extra reinforcment.
Im using a .875 inch master and a G50 Porsche slave.

I just had brilliant idea for a super clean install for type 3 at least.
I been pondering about the location of a MC for a while. In the middle of the bulk head there is a cover plate for installation of the shift rod.
The clutch pedal and accel pedal shafts run all the way through on RHD cars. You could weld a leaver and pivot pin right in the middle or offset for
preference in relation to this cover plate. Then make a solid alloy plate, O ring grove around the outside as this plate needs to be sealed from
water. Then machine and fit the MC on that. You can offset it enough that a secondary smaller inspection cover can go on the sold one so that you can
make the push rod adjustments or at least as visual hole for when installing the plate with MC on it.
Only mod to the bulk head i would recommend is additional holes taped around the this cover as there currently is only 2 bolts.

look of this... seen a couple of saco installs and don't like the idea of a gaping hole in the tunnel.. wonder if it can be done without the hole but
still retaining some sanity. wish I had done this before painting my pan.. haha

trouble with that item is it will get in the way of the steering tie rods and /or petrol tank. If not in the way then be a tight fit.

I had a look last night at my own idea, yes tight fit with the tie rods but more than doable. way doable than my previous ideas or trying to adapt
those above for my car.
There is always issues with fitment with most mods isn't there
