gopro white....any good?

I'm thinking of a gopro for the race car but my arse puckers at the price for the black and almost as much for the silver. Contour is about the same. Gopro white seems reasonable but wonder about video quality especially at night.....any comments appreciated.

I think the main difference is frames per second. The black has 30 frames per second and I think the white is 3 frames per second

Absolute waste of time... Forget the White edition... Forget Go Pro completely TBH. I use a range of POV camera's regularly, and the best I have been using lately is the REPLAY XD1080/XD720. You get what you pay for, the Replay stuff is great, all Billet, bulletproof, and bulk spares are available. Factor in mounts to your purchase price, I recommend RAM mounts, Go pro comes with no mounts at all these days, countour gets a few sticky mounts, and replay gets a reasonable sticky setup, but you will always resort to buying more mounts. A hardwire kit is available for cars/bikes, and removes the chance that the camera will go flat at the wrong time, and is setup to start recording when the vehicle starts, and switch off when its turned off, removes the hassle of starting/stopping and the chance of forgetting to do it. The replay doesn't distort like the go pro does either.

The contour isn't a bad unit, the GPS is a neat novelty, but I don't use it a great deal. The switch/button setup on the Contour isn't too shabby and is easier to start than the gopro/replay. But I would recommend the Replay

I use a Go Pro White Hero 3 edition in my Hillclimb car.

I have found it easy to use with excellent quality of footage.

I have however never used it at night. There is a setting for in car use that really gives you excellent clarity.

Even in this dappled light quality is good.

I have been thinking about a camera for the car as well...... With the cameras mentioned above, can you record in high definition but then compress for uploading and emailing?

I have a white Hero3 and it's 60fps NTSC or 50 fps PAL depending on the resolution required, it does full HD at 30 & 25 respectively. I think most of the difference is in features such as bluetooth etc,
but I do know it does way more than I was expecting

This is sound advice!
I've been using and selling pov cameras for 6 years and rarely has GoPro ever been a viable option. I've used every GoPro model and only suggest GoPro3+ Silver to those that insist on buying GoPro (they are the ones that ignore my advice).

I'm listed on the ReplayAustralia site as a reseller; feel free to PM for a the best deal on ReplayXD1080 or 720.
Replay are the choice of camera used in many major motor sports. Even the V8 Supercar onboard cameras are a stripped down and rebuilt ReplayXD made by GlobeCast called GlobeCam who Channel 7 employ. It's a similar set up that F1 use in all their cars.
I sell other brands (including GoPro) - the only other camera I recommend is DriftHD Ghost.

Contour went bankrupt this year so don't expect much from customer support.

ReplayXD720 rrp $150
ReplayXD1080 rrp $269

This video was shot on the 1080 using only the supplied mounts that come with all replay cameras. At 462MPH it doesn't have a problem.
After watching this tell me you would consider anything else!
(audio is from the camera).

Wholly cow that footage is mental....

I use the evolution drift..I think its good and I like that you have a screen so u can see if you have mounted the camera right.....go pro has to many accessories etc which bump the price up high......radcam pro is also very good, look it up..you don't have to reach back and turn it on,so no unwanted footage waiting for your run etc.this is what I would get if I got another one....

Just make sure it has a wide angle....
