oil thermostat - pulled apart, now which way back together
hi,
dismantled a new Empi oil thermostat and now need some advice to confirm how it goes back together. There is a large washer and its a clearance fit
over the body of the thermostat element, but I got the impression it was assembled wrong and flopping around at the top towards the circlip end.
Does anyone have one pulled apart ? or can see inside the ports to confirm where the large washer goes? between the spring and the shoulder, or
between the shoulder and the locating boss on the circlip end.
by the way, it was recommended to pull it apart, and that was good advice. It was full of aluminium grindings and swarf, the bore was scored,
requiring 20 minutes with wet & dry, and both 'O' rings were butchered.... from new. thanks Mr Empi..
Anyway, any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Yep, my experience too with the swarf and scores. By memory the washer goes against the element, not the boss/end plug.
