Superbug and Lbug engine mounts..

Hi Guys, a quick one for you superbeetle guys, I am in the process of attempting to fit my gearbox 71 IRS into my Manxter and was told to use later model mounts.
Now the dilemma is they fit the lower cage bracket fine and also fit into the gearbox fine but not both at the same time...:grind:
Are these supposed to be tensioned or flexed into place or should they slide straight in like the older banana mounts?
I will try and get some pics on tonight.
Cheers for your help..

Are you trying to run late rubber mounts with an early cradle?

THey don;t interchange like that, you'll need to use whatever mounts match the cradle you are using.

THe 73+ cradle and mounts really were one of VWs brainfart moments, best thing to do is swap to the 72 and earlier kind if you have later ones.

Joels lower picture does not show the studs that go in the gear box
I think that you bolt then to the gearbox first then the nuts and bolts in the lower ..
banana mounts

They fell apart when I removed them, I pulled that cradle from a splitty last driven in the 70s

I get where your coming from now, your bar work replaces the original cradle.

Do you have the original mounts it had still?

Yeah I have the original cradle but I would have to cut off the folded lip around the edge to bolt it against the bar work to the frame horns, I can probably modify the original to make it work if I can't jimmy these on.
This is how far out the mount is..

I have tried to flip them side to side to see if the holes were offset at all too..

how they are in the pics is arse about face, left side is on the right and right on the left.

The gearbox will move around a bit if the holes don't line up.

Hi Steve, just trying to figure out what the problem is at the moment, I do have the original style banana mounts which were fine with a stupid 18yo me driving it for 10 years or so like a muppet! So I might be converting back to that style I guess..
