replacing door lock barrels.

hey guys,
i have just recently picked up a 1970 type 3 fastback.
part of the key has been snapped into the barrel. is it easier to get a new barrel and key set. or to somehow get the piece of key out of the barrel and replace the key. whats the best way to fix this?

the ignition barrel uses a different key. so thats all fine.

cheers, belza

unscrew the handle from the inside of the door and disconnect the linkages blah blah.

the handle should if I recall slide one direction and pops out.

unscrew the barrel cam/level?

un-clip? the barrel and remove it from the handle(You may need the rest of the key to open the barrel to slide it out). you will see all the wafers sticking out.

you should be able to fish it out making sure your good or new key code is not messed up but putting all the wafers back in the right place as they code it. Its pretty easy to recode at that point anyway so I don't bother.

hope that helps

I pull them fully apart and recode them on reassembly anyway so don't be too stressed about it.
