Forum rules for Buying and Selling Cars Effective 10/1/2014 read this before posting

Hi there,

You can sell your VW or related marque, or place a "Wanted to buy" ad, for free in this forum.

As per our recent vote, the membership has decided on retaining our previous rules. I've decided to soften them up a bit.

To place a for sale ad, you must list the following things:

  • Use Topic Prefixes pull down to indicate that it's for sale [ FS - state ] the state where the car is located
  • Price - mandatory. You can always haggle in person.
  • Location - Suburb, State are mandatory, postcode optional
  • Describe the car accurately and fairly. Use The Samba's guidelines for conditions ( http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/conditions.htm )
  • Does the car has a RWC and any issues that would prevent it getting another one (if any)
  • Contact details - Your name plus it's essential that you make yourself available, so please make sure your e-mail address is accurate and set the option that allows members to e-mail to you via the User CP ("Allow users to contact you via e-mail?"). Moderators will keep an eye on this setting. Preferably, list your mobile phone or similar, just like they do in the Trading Post or Gumtree.
  • Photos - highly recommended.

You can do an ad with no photos, but from long experience, these do not sell. Go outside and take a few selfies with your car and post 'em up. If you need help in adding photos to your ad, ask a moderator or administrator for help.

If you want to buy a car

Obviously, you don't have a car, so most of the above rules do not apply. So the list of things you should do are as follows:

  • Use the topic prefix drop down [ WTB - state ] to indicate that you want to buy and the state you live in
  • Describe what you want accurately
  • Optionally, describe a price range or max price to entice folks to part with their cars
  • Optionally, show a photo or two of something similar to what you'd like to buy
  • Make sure you are contactable via e-mail, DM and phone

Uncommonsense must prevail with this type of offer, as who know who has what or even if they read our forum. The more details and the more money you can bring to the table, the more likely you are to succeed. The choice is yours.

    Once it's sold

Once your car sells here or elsewhere, edit your post to change the topic prefix to [SOLD].

If you don't know how to do that, please use the "Report" button and a moderator will help you.

    What's not allowed

  • Auctions of any type. If you want an auction, there's zillions of sites for that. List there and link your ad in our Offsite buying and selling cars forum ( http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewforum.php?fid=112 )
  • Expressions of interest ("for sale only if I get a great offer, but I'm not saying what my price is") are not welcome here.
  • Prizes ("Buy a ticket to my charity's raffle and you can win a VW Golf GTI"). This forum is for buying and selling cars, not winning a car. You can post prize ads to the offsite forum if you must, but don't be spammy about it.

    Safety

For everyone's safety, consider Car Sales' seller safety tips ( http://helpcentre.carsales.com.au/scam-defence/seller-safety/ ). If you have any doubts, again use Car Sales rather than us.

Most states require vehicle sellers to state their location and phone number. Some states have more requirements, others less. We are not a source of legal advice, so please make yourselves aware of the minimum requirements in your state. If in doubt about our rules, use Car Sales or eBay or Gumtree to list your car, and post a link to your offsite ad in the Buying and Selling Offsite Links forum ( http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewforum.php?fid=112 ).

We really don't mind offsite links in the right forum, and would prefer you to have a good experience.

    Moderation

Moderators are here to help you make a better ad that adheres to these rules. If you think an ad does not comply with the rules, click "Report" and someone will look at it as soon as we can. As we do this for free, so our response is best efforts; please don't expect us to be here 24/7. If nothing has happened in 48 hours, click Report again.

Only in exceptional circumstances, such as continued non-compliance, will a non-compliant ad be withdrawn. If you deliberately do not comply with these rules, know your ad will swim with the fishes. If you don't like it, there are other places you can list your car, and you are welcome to link to the ad in our offsite ad forum ( http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewforum.php?fid=112 ).

    Fine print

We do this for free as a service to our members, and we don't have to do it all. If Buying and Selling gets out of control, it will go away, so please be respectful of others' ads, respond quickly to any enquiries, and keep comments on the ride to yourselves unless you're a potential buyer or seller.

We are not part of the transaction between you and the buyer. We are like a poster you sticky taped to a power pole outside the supermarket. Sometimes, we're the council cleaning them off.

We have no money, so don't bother your bush lawyer mates (or in the unlikely event you have an actual lawyer) with any thoughts of including us if things go wrong.

There are mediation options your bush lawyer will not know anything about, so go ask a real lawyer if you need that sort of assistance.

We are not lawyers, so don't ask us for advice or help as we're likely to be completely wrong. We're good at moral outrage though.

    Have fun and be safe!

Caveat emptor and caveat vendor, and good luck with selling or buying cars!
