My pride and joy from almost 30 years ago!

Hi guys

I thought that I would post these very old photos (sorry about the blemishes) of my Powertune Stage 4 1835.

I think it is almost 30 years ago now and it was my absolute pride and joy and was driven daily.

It was based on a 1974 1300 Type 1 and was sensational to drive.

I hope you like the pictures.

Regards
Greg

Mate that looks the duck's guts, the right colour to go with the black trim as well. Very nice.

Hi Greg - thanks for bringing back some fond memories of early 80's era.

Won't hijack your post but I had a very similar daily driver 30yrs ago with a 2180 - loved that car as you did yours.

Ah, those were the days!

Sorry Craig, no interior shots. I had heated Recaro seats with pneumatic lumbar supports, Stewart Warner gauges, a Momo steering wheel and the dash and inside of the doors were all Matt black.

Gee I loved that car. I think the wheels were Magnum Eliminators with Yokohama 002 tyres. The car drove like it was glued to the road.

1835 with twin webers and a Powertune exhaust.

Hi Owen

These photos are just for you and are more than 30 years old!

They are of the car I had prior to the Yellow car.

Note the stylish air horns on the side of the car, the nerf bars and the white mudguard piping?...very nice :)

Regards
Greg

Do you know if that bug was sold to someone who lived at Chatswood?
I tried buying that car from a bloke nearly 10 years ago. It was sitting in a front yard in Chatswood looking very unloved compared to the photos you have posted. I was dating a girl in the same street and spotted it. Knocked on the front door and talked the owner into selling it, but he wanted what I thought at the time was a bit to much. Looking back I wish I had grabbed it!

Hi Alex

The last time I saw it was a few years after I sold it and it was in a side street in Greenwich just off River Road.

The gossip I heard was that it was left on the street and was not looked after very well which was very disappointing as I don't know why you would buy a great car only to allow it to rot and not look after it.

And yes Steve... it was very much a "jet in a jam tin".

Regards
Greg

PS: and Owen, I was thinking maybe "impasse"?

I'm 55 and I feel very passé sometimes.
I used to drive with an informal group called the American Cruisers in the early 80's. We used to meet at Mona Vale Friday nights. Things seemed simpler then, you could even talk your way out of a speeding ticket. I saw a fella called Alex (mean Dodge Phoenix) do it.
Ah well,Rob.

Unfortunatley this car has been scrapped....I bought the bug about 8-9 years ago from the person in Chatswood. The body was beyond saving but still had all the running gear, that was recycled to another member on the forum. Shame it was left under a tree to rot away . Powertune set a standard in the 80's way ahead of any other vw performance shop in Sydney. I too in my younger day looked up and the conversions and drooled over the cars in the powertune store on my many parts delivery runs over to Gladesville...hey Steve they were the good ol days....great memories.
