"A combination of up to seven (7) letters and numbers on normal size aluminium plates, or up to nine (9) letters and numbers on steel plates"

The aluminium ones are more style appropriate so 7 ideally cheers

What size engine does it have, maybe something like BUG1600 or year model, like 73SUPER

Call stockers boring if you want, but VW sure sold a lot of them that way

Do you have to pay extra each year in other states to maintain a personalised or custom plate?

In Victoria, once you buy it, you never pay to retain the plate on or off a vehicle. It is just a one off payment when you originally purchase it.

I see so many douche bag ute owner have number plates saying jealous or envy in some description.

I feel like getting a spray can and stencil and spraying on the back "embarrassed" while crossing out their number plate.

"umadbro" would be a good sleeper number plate with troll eyes peaking over the plate. lol

It was much harder before there were personalised plates. Heard that there was a custom P'van in the early 80's with IGL 000 plates (cool!). You could get BUG 001 then too.
The new ones with 5 for S etc. just say "dy5l3ctic" really. But HOTRNU, TEASA, EATSV8 and such can be amusing.

Trouble is by now that all the clever ones are already gone. There are those who buy them for resale and purchase the clever/quirky/saleable ones when the plates were a new thing, then offer them up for $3000 when the idea catches on.

but no one buys plates when for sale.

I know a guy who has real plates with 01HDT, 01BROK, 06HSV
HDT-105.

Some awesome plates there, but I never seen them sell, still for sale.

I have seen some plates you would think would sell in a heart beat but still always relisted on ebay years latter.

I have never ever personally seen plates actually sell, unless practically giving them away. 50 bucks etc..

Surely the coolest plates of all are the original ones the car came with when it was brand new, and still there today. Bonus for original VW dealer number plate frames and rear window dealer sticker/transfer.

That is very true. I know the original plate number for my notch, but I can't get the combo even as a custom plate. Seems to be taken. :grind:

On my new VR I still have the original SA plates on it and they are VRN-225

its funny coz its a VR and I have had all the models from VR to VN. If only is was VRN-231, that would be classic!

I tried to get WIL-11E when I lived in Sydney, but it was gone.
In NT I had RX on a Subaru RX turbo, JN on our XR8 and 1218 on another Subaru (standard issue).
Personalised plated in the NT were cheap, so I could justify them up there. Here in the ACT they are way too expensive for my liking and as such I don't have any. I will try and get YVW-75L for my 1303 as a special order standard plate as opposed to a personalised plate.

According to vic roads site any plate starting with V is invalid unless its euro series. God damn it! I can have every other letter but V in the first letter. :td:

My 68 beetle had "068DUB" plates on it. Sold them for $250 to the buyer of the car. I guess they fitted the vehicle well. But yes, I agree that some seem to be always "on the market".

Wrong, i've bought plates off someone, so they do sell when for sale. If someone wants something enough, they will pay.
