Rattling gear stick

Hey just seeing if there is something that will tighten my gear stick up. Cruising around town is cool, yes it does flop around but when I hit the freeway all I hear is the rattle and it is sending me crazy.
There is no problem getting into gears it's just the rattle once at high speed that's doing my head in.

If anyone knows of something to tighten it up that would be awesome.

Thanks

Dan

2 things, whats the shifter rod bush like? (condition wise)

and, there should be a spring under the gear stick to push the gear stick up firm, preventing rattle. IF the spring has lost its pressure, just stretch it out a bit and refit.

Slopping plenty of bearing grease helps dampen the vibrations too between the contacting surfaces.

The other thing it can be is loose, worn or broken transaxle mounts.
When the gearbox moves around it causes to gearstick to move.

Hi

assuming its your Superbug your having the problem with, it would most likely the shift bush under the gearstick, there should be how toos on this forum.

I had a problem with my sons bug, the seat belt bolts were too long and were touching gear shift rod.

I have the same probem in the L Bug despite CSP shifter, new shiftrod bush, CB Rhino coupler, new gearbox mounts and Porsche style front trans mount - shiftrod still rattles at higher rpm.

Thanks Steve - will look at seatbelt bolts - didn't think of that.

Thanks for all the info, I haven't even had a chance to check it yet, will ASAP.
It is on my panel van but will keep in mind if I hear it on my super beetle.

Thanks once again and will let you know how I get on
