Bus shifter to fit bug ?


I have a 71 bug i'd like to put a longer shifter in. will one out of a bus fit or work ? anyone done this before ?

I was just looking at these when I was at the wreckers the other day, I don't believe they'll bolt straight in but with a little moving of the pivot ball they might.



It will all be OK in the end, if it's not OK it's not the end!

I know you can use the taller early T2 housing to make a quick shift for a bug so it really depends if the gearstick would engage with the beetle shift rod.

Or get some 10mm bar and cut the beetle gearstick to lengthen with the 10mm bar. Seen plenty of guys on the Volkszone forum do this and is strong if welded properly :)
