Narrowed Beam drag link mods?

Ive just fitted a 4 in narrowed beam to my 59 Beetle and want to know peoples previous experience on cutting the drag link.

The passenger side seems easy, determine length, cut thread inside drag link with a tap, install tie rod,

On the drivers side (short link) the tie rods are crimped to the drag link, I want to know what you've done in the past.

thanx in advance.

Replace the crimped OE one for an adjustable one and do as you did for the long one

Cool thanks matt. So is this an aftermarket item or one from a later model? I have another long rod, could I make it from this and put the factory bend in it?
Has the short adjustable one got a bend in it?

Yes you could use a cut down long, remember your not removing equal amounts as you will fudge your steering box location to maximise the length of the short tie rod. The angle is in the tie rod end on the adjustable set up, I'd just get a new assembly that way you have all the correct new ends and easy-to-use threads and you have a spare long, they are the ones to bend if any, or when you go back to stock....or whatever. Give Vintage Vee Dub a call, I'm sure they would have the parts, preferably German.
