shimmy / vibration when braking/slowing down

So ive finally got my bug (71 sb) running nice take her for a spin and when i slow down or hit brakes the steering wheel wobbles and you get a vibration through front end. Is thsi the usual SB wobble people talk about?? Ive ordered a new steering damper and i am trying to source a centre tie rod ( ball joint at either end) as that is all i can see with any wear in them.
I'm concerned about lowering front end just in case this wobble doesn't get solved with new parts as i hear the ride gets worse the lower you go?? Ive only driven stock height bugs and split kombi's so have no experience of this.

Check the bushes in the lower control arms.

Thanks for that will look tomorrow. So where is the best place to source bushes from in Oz?? Do you guys buy in from overseas or is there a good local supplier. I've been using VW Heritage quite a bit for my spares, but i used them in the UK so ive been sticking to what i know. All suggestions greatly received, would be nice to contribute to the local community as opposed to sending my money back home!!

What are you after?
Street or track?

V Force (Richard Holzl) was great for track stuff but he is all but retired/closed these days

Vintage Vee Dub is Super Beetle friendly

Otherwise aircooled.net, Topline and VW Hertiage are the go

so looking at diagram that mackaymanx supplied i would be looking at numbers 24 and 28 for lower control arm bushes??
I know i have a worn ball joint on the drivers side of item 18, what would you say was the most likely culprit?? The damper has evidence of a leak too, so its getting replaced.
Of course i would be replacing item 24/28 on both sides.

I have a couple of new 3 stud ball joints in Taree . Pm if interested. When you replace the bushes and damper also suggest that you fit a strut brace to stop the towers moving.

So i replaced:- Steering damper, Centre tie Rod, control arm lower bushes and sway bar front bushes, i fit the wheels on as balanced as i could (using chalk and spin method!) and bloomin hell it only works a treat! No wobble on braking and no wobble at 35-45mph. Result.
Just got to paint hood and touch up rear valance and its finshed! Well as finished as Vw's ever get!
Thanks for help and advice every one
