Scat adjustable spring loaded pushrod tubes
Hi All,
I appear to have a couple of leaking pushrods tubes (drivers side), the oil leaks aren't huge but you can smell the oil drips burning on the heater
boxes.
I was wondering if anyone in Australia has used/installed Scat Adjustable Spring Loaded Pushrod Tubes.
The engine is running really well and hasn't missed a beat. Just need to sort this little (smelly) oil leak.

Yep, I use them regularly and they are a good product, BUT, have an extremely close look at your leak as it can be very likely that it's from the
lower headstuds that go into the tappet cover and not actually the tubes.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm going to do a thorough clean of the area this weekend and then run the motor to see exactly where the leak is.
Is tightening the lower head stud an easy job (not needing to pull the motor out).

You don't tension the head studs without doing all 8 on each side of the engine IMO. The leak if any, is caused by no sealant being used or failed
sealant under the head washers. It's an area that VW never recommended sealant although it is obviously required. To tension the heads properly, the
engine and cooling tin needs removal, and threads cleaned and lubed.

How often do you need/do this Mat? I got got told by the guy that built my motor that only the lower studs need checking as the top don't move..
Seemed like a load of b/s to me... was like a Honda dealer telling me they don't check the valves on the front bank of a V4 as they are never out..?!
It will all be OK in the end, if it's not OK it's not the end!

I know engine builders that have recommended what you're saying too. I can only say the engines I build have NEVER required a head retension and IMO
there are other reasons that cause the issue.

I like the scat tubes. More exxy than just seals but avoiding removing the head to replace them is the benefit. Under $100 for the full set including
seals.

I use them with dry silicone seals on a smoooth and clean mating surface with lubricated pushrod tube orings
bitten by the bug..........several times
