oval beetle gearshift
In the USA a 55 beetle had a straight gearstick and a 56 went to a curved one. Did the same thing happen here?
My car is extra special. It doesnt have one at all. Which is strange because I am sure when I parked it 20 years ago that it had one with a golf ball
on top. Why would I have taken it out and where could it be now?????

It's either in the bar or you left it on the 9th hole.

I figured out why mine is no longer "there". I swapped the pan many years ago. It was on a semi auto and I put it back on an oval pan. When I sold
the auto maybe the shifter went with it.

Dont know off the top of my head but I'm sure its a 56. (Got it from Seb Semos).
So next question... what is the next change after that? Any gearshift from Aug 55 until ?
How many restored Manly Tans are out there? One was at Wollongong Gasweld this morning.

body 1178540. I have 2 rust free floorpans 1249331, 1590217. Both of them are fitted with a slotted shiftrod. Engines and gearboxes... too many to
list. 2 of them were runners when I got them. The others have been stripped.
I'm putting together all the interior bits n pieces that need to be painted white, gearshift is all I have left to source. I think.
Are there differences in handbrakes? This is all I have so hoping it is oval era.

That was my choice of floorpan. It has bent jacking points but the other one has no jack points and it is powdercoated. Its not going to be matching
numbers in any way so not really that much of an issue. The restoration level only needs to go as far as convincing me that its 100%. That will be
enough to convince most VW people and 100% of non-VW people.
I'm not sure that a mint shifter is what I am after h because I would want to strip it and have it match to the rest of the interior bits.
Grumble that shifter looks to be thicker diameter too.

U need to add a strip on 10 gauge steel between the jack point and the chassis pan
this will strengthen the area and it wont push into the body work sill when using the jack i did this to my chassis over 30 years ago
you need a bent gear stick with 10mm thread on top
