Anyone fitted Optima or Fullriver AGM Battery in '68 or later Beetle
Found my wet cell battery had leaked so I want to replace it with a sealed battery and as I have experience with the Optima, that would be my first
choice, however it does not have recessed terminals (the Fullriver does) and it is 200mm high as opposed to the wet cell I have removed which stands
175mm high.
Has anyone fitted the Optima and if so what did you use to ensure the seat frame never shorts against the battery terminals?
Cheers............wayne

Turn the optima battery on its side, it will still work upside down.
Use the Red top optima.

Thanks. Any suggestions as to how hold it down when mounted on its side? Not keen on drilling holes in the floor
Cheers

I had a Hawker Odyssey battery in my buggy when I bought it 10 years ago, it died and I had to replace it with one of simmilar size so that it would
fit in the very confined space that the old one lived in, cant remember the actual brand but I got it from Battery World, still going strong after 8
years. The size is 179mm wide, 180mm deep and 145mm high to the top of the terminals (not recessed). They are both the type that you can turn any way
you want, some sort of acid gell I think, should do your job admirably.

I use delkor batteries. They have all the range even recessed post type.
my first one I bought in 08, been flatten to near 0V twice accidentally still working like new now. Done about about 200,000km too.
recently bought another one for one of the other cars, great battery, not cheap, was about $180 ? but you get what you pay for.

We fit the odyssey 925 batteriries to all cars at our work. They are all fitted sideways in the rear quarter panels, and I have one like that in my
sedan too. The race cars all use the 680 to save weight.
They are over $300 for the 925. You can buy hold down brakets, which you would be able to modify to fit a Beetle.
