Beetle wheel alignment query - anyone had one in Perth?

Hi guys,

I'm certain the alignment on my 67' needs some attention. The front left outer tyre is wearing unevenly and it does pull ever so slightly to the left.

The steering is quite heavy for a light car with 165's all round but that may not be indicative of a problem. I only have my 72' super to compare it to, but that had 185's and notably lighter steering.

It's not a major problem and the steering free play is minimal and within the inch(!!) that the Haynes manual says is acceptable.

I have checked all of the bushes underneath - my front bump stops are knackered and I have replacements on order but the rest are okay. I regularly grease my king pins and the beam points, and the steering damper, tie rod ends etc have all recently been replaced though I will do the shocks soon. Anything else I should be looking at?

Given its a link pin beam axle I don't know who to take it to for an alignment .. Has anyone got a recommendation for someone in Perth for old vee dubs?

I doubt that I'm telling you anything you don't know, but there's a mob in Freo that specialise in dubs, least there was a couple or 3 years ago when I was over there in the wench, can't remember their name though I could find it if you need me to. Gave me great service and defiantly knew their stuff .

HAve you physically checked the KP and LP bushes aren't excessively worn? Front wheels off the ground and wiggling the tyre at 6 n 12? When was the last time you adjusted the LP pins?

As for wheel alignment, if you take your workshop manual that has the suspension settings in to a Pedders then they shouldn't have an issue setting the suspension properly.

Thanks mate.

Did the wheel test on the weekend and it was okay but I intend to take everything from the spindle outward off soon to re pack the wheel bearings anyway.. I'll make sure I check them.

Thanks for the advice guys!
