Type 4 Running

Got my type 4 running today, but it is making a shocking noise.
Just like the clip attached.
My first thought is either a dropped valve or a broken rocker, does anybody have any ideas on where to steer me to look first, I will pull the motor on the weekend and depending on what I find will decide if I stay with the type 4 or go for a subi conversion..

from the decal on the side of the engine I have solids so its unlikely to be a dead lifter but happy hear why it could be.

Possibly a stuck valve or a valve adjuster come unscrewed if not hydraulic. pull the covers and check the clearances.

It definitely sounds valve train related. Check for a bent pushrod as I had a Tarago sound similar. The bent pushrod was pushing the rocker off the valve tip and onto the spring retainer. It eventually popped the collets so the valve dropped and lunched the engine.

The sound is like valve train but the speed is at engine speed not half speed like valve train it seems.

Sounds like a rocker arm related noise.

Pulled the donk today, without a strip down it looks like it's a big end.
Turn it over with a socket 1 clunk for every revolution.
Looks like the time has come to make a call. To Subi or not To Subi?
The bus has a 5 rib box not a 6 rib so if I do convert it to run a Subi, I probably should do a ratio change as well.
Anybody got a 2nd hand conversion kit lying around?

As a final check, tomorrow I will take the rockers off and see if I still get the noise when I turn it over,
That should eliminate that being the issue.

not sure what year your bus is, but a raby camper special engine kit will be most satisfying!

No one has ever been disappointed by them.

If you do go subie then price up the gearbox too as the fifth gear may may be cost effective next to a built or rebuilt VS box.
