VW fastback turbo 1835, Meth/water inj EFI
Up for sale is my beloved 1970 fastback.
This is a transition model from early to late.
What’s the difference?
Low back seats
Low rear parcel shelf
I believe the dash is different
no rear pillar vents
This has been converted to early bumpers - but late bolt back on if wanted.
It’s the TLE so started life as injected..but since the car has been upgraded to 1835cc I have upgraded the ECU to megasquirt. This ECU has a lot
of functionality and the car runs very well with it. As well as sorting your own timing curve and fuel delivery it has tricks such as injector shut
off for fuel saving when decelerating.
Specs
1835cc that has had new rings and hone after sitting in storage for a while - engine is great, very smooth and makes no funny noises, no oil
consumption.
041 heads, turbo grind scat cam, 92borex69stroke.
Megasquirt ECU running wasted spark from crank sensor - no more unreliable distributors.
EFi hardware is from the TLE setup - so standard intake and runners.
denso injectors
Walbro fuel pump
EFI regulator
Coil pack driven.
Innovate Lambda sensor and gauge for ECU and your eyes to see the AFR on the go.
With this EFI the car is brought into modern times. It starts in the cold, it starts hot, it is silky smooth to drive and has no stutters or misfires
at all.
There is nothing to be afraid of here for the old school tuner. The car comes with a laptop and will provide tuition on the tuning of both fuel and
spark - the software auto tunes the car and is capable if some really cool stuff such as launch control, injector cut off on over run, E85 fuel switch
etc..
I have the car tuned how I like it, on cruise it leans out with no load for economy and it is a good economical driver.
Body
One of the best type 3 bodies I’ve seen. Floor pan rust free, painted and rust prevented. Only bubbles are behind right rear fender which haven’t
changed since purchasing the car 6 years ago.
Gearbox
Rancho street pro - was brand new a few years ago - bugger all Kms since.
New clutch and throw out bearing
Wheels
Polished cookie cutters 6” front and 7” deep rears with Pirelli tyres
Bilstein shocks on the rear
Custom interior done by Brad at bus n bug. This included repairs to old seats, new foam inserts and custom covers. TMI carpet kit.
Flat 4 steering wheel and shifter
Brakes
These are huge. Glen Torrens VW Cool kit.
Holden VS calipers with vented front discs
Falcon EA calipers with solid discs rear
bias valve to control rear balance
Kombi master cylinder.
The car is currently club rego and is not transferrable so will be sold ‘as is’ unregistered.
Naturally aspirated no mod plate. Yes, the car can be returned to pre-turbo state as everything is bolt on.
$12,500, plus cost for new exhaust - you could pick a cheap empi system or go all out to vintage speed. The car will be tuned for N/A with that system
in place
I think the car is a bargain at $12,500 considering the running gear.
