Spray booth time for base and clearcoat - Brissy Northside
I was just wondering if anyone knows an automotive painter on Brissy Northside that is willing to shoot the base and clear coats of a fully block
sanded Bug?
Also at a reasonable cost not over $1k, more like $500-600 for the booth time it takes, if I'm supplying all materials and help with the masking.
Pm me if you know anyone.
Cheers,
Mike

Booth hire is normally $500, so the painter who is "shooting" the paint will want something to make it worthwhile. You will have to think in the $1K
range minimum.

I used to do this when I were a lot younger and for the time it takes to spray and bake the base and then clear makes it no more than a $1K all up,
especially if I'm helping.
Also, $1K is the most I can afford as been out of work with chronic back pain for over a year and the government are no help what so ever in helping
you get better to return to work.

I'm moving down to Melbourne in a few weeks Bernie but thanks for the info.
Chiro isn't quite so good for me due to the damage I have but exercise is the main thing to help with my injuries.

Wow, that's pretty good. If you end up using it yourself just make sure the lighting inside is good. Otherwise you struggle to see the wet edge and
run into problems
As for me, I finished the paintwork back in March but thanks anyhow

The money is all in the prep mate and that's the easy part. So long as you have a good feel for undulations in bodywork. You can buy a pretty good
set of sanding blocks on Ebay and so long as you coat bare metal and bondo in an epoxy primer, to protect from moisture, then it's just sanding.
I found a guy in Oxley that would do the spraying for $800 but his booth wasn't heated. Still shows you that you can just get the base n clear
sprayed without shelling out a small fortune on the prep work cos the paint guys know this is where the money is. Base and clear takes little more
than an arvo to lay down with a heated booth.
Things like masking can take a full day and that's $1000 if they charge at the normal hourly rate. $1000 for masking up?!?!?!?!?!?

Im cool with the prep work mate ....done a fair bit of diy over the years ..my problem is .... im working in a single garage in an integral unit so
neighbours may object if i start gasing them out with 2 pac toxins !
Body shops wont warranty apparantly unless they prep (so ive been told )
The booth in Nundah is available but ive never laid 2 pac down and i want a good job on my 60 bug daily driver .
More contacts are now coming up through the forum so ill make an informed decision when the quotes come in !

Blah blah blah. That's just an excuse cos they can do a cash in hand job plus if it's all the same paint system and the primers degreased then any
base and clear adhesion problem is down to them. Anyway, they bug me.
I did find a guy in Warner with his own booth. Found him on Gumtree along with the dude in Oxley.
Good luck and shame about your garage. Still, as I said you need really good lighting. The colour is pretty easy to apply as you can see the wet edge
against the primer. The clear is much harder to see if the lighting isn't good.
