4 Motion woes - what to do?

Hi Everyone,

I was going to post this in the watercooled section, but it seems a little quiet in there at the moment.

I have a Bora 4 motion and lately I have noticed a rubbing sound coming from the rear when I am turning left. I have checked the tyres and have not found any signs of rubbing. I have been reading that it is a sign of a stuffed rear diff.

The car did not have a service history, so I had the gearbox and diff oil changed - which helped with the gear selection, but hasn't done anything for the rubbing noise.

The car needs a few other things - paint is stuffed, horn has blown, side indicators aren't actually wired to anything, air con is not working and the sump plug needs to be re tapped - it has got a new thread sleeve put in it and is a bugger to swap.

Any suggestions for shops to have a look at the diff? Preferably close to the Central Coast/Gosford area. It seems kind of specialised - would any 4wd place be able to do it, or is it more of a euro specialist job?

Or should I trade it in on something else while it is still running? It is a nice car, but a non existent service history (I know, I know, but it was cheap) and atleast $2000 in repairs are making me consider my options.

Cheers

Give Ron Croft (C&S Automotive) a ring - (02) 9774 3340. Take him through the list of faults and he will advise feasibility of fixing and rough price.

Be quick as he is retiring in July after 52 years working on Volkswagens.
