Timing help

Sorry if this has been covered before..So I tried doing the timing on my 68 Beetle this morning after watching a few tutorials, took it for a drive and it could barely move under load. Spent ages trying to get it correct but no luck  pulled the rotor off my distributor & it has this on the inside. Any help would be great.
