Shifter Problem

Hi all,
I have just gone to put Blaster in gear to test the transmission and it does go into gear properly but the shifter shaft i guess you would call just rotates even in gear but the shifter knob moves with it, is this normal?

If the gear stick itself can rotate then that means the pin in the sticks fulcrum ball has broken off or come loose and dropped out. I'm not exactly sure why it's even there beyond the fact that it stops the stick rotating so the cranked shape of it stays in the one place.
