Hey everyone, I'm sure I'm not the first on this forum to get done for speeding (hence the new icon), so thought I'd throw together a poll. :thumb
So go ahead and relieve that revenue raising tension :D

Cheers,
Cam

Oh... And if you feel like sharing some close call stories (or anything similar) whilst hammering your VW, I for one would'nt mind hearing them :)

Only one speeding fine this year, 63 in a 60 zone:(

$105 fine last week though for doing a left hand turn in on of those streets they ban turns down in peak hour:jesus

Hmmm, I'll often turn down this street if I get sick of sitting in the traffic trying to get across a fairly minor with traffic lights. You crawl along and wait for 4-6 changes of lights before you finally get through, argh!!

Have often wondered if they ever man these streets? Well they do:cry:cry occasionally:cry:cry

It was one of those decisions of will I, won't I. I did and there they were. Hmmm, I turned into the nearest drive to turn back, which I knew was dumb at the time. Mr Plod saw me and waved me down to him:o

Think he would have actually like to laugh, I know I did as I gave him my serious answers while other responses ran through my head. Got a feeling he could read my mind:D

Well I not only lost time but a lot of $$$ as well:cussing

I look down that street now every night as a crawl slowly past. Damn it's so tempting

Lost 6 points in a long week end drive to NSW a while ago. Double demerits Ouch.
Was lucky tho, by the time the cop had caught up to me I had slowed down a bit. Otherwise it would have been bye bye to license.
Dont speed at all now with only 6 points left.

I got picked up in my dad's 97' Civic... Theres a loong strectch of dead straight road (about 1.5Ks) in middle suburbia, about 9pm. My nephew had been in hospital that arvo coz he bit through his lip whilst trying to jump backwards off the side of a pool (but not far enough!) anyways, i was on the way home do doing 74 in a 50 zone onf this looong strectch of road... Unmarked copper pulls me up right near the end of the road... I didnt even use the day's occurences as an excuse, don't kno why i didn't, I had the baby capsual in the back seat too! couldve used that as an alabi(?) Funny thing though, I was visualising having coppers in my rearview mirror... I sometimes do this when i drive, but this time i visualised it twice....

so one more K over, i would've lost my licence- and i was only 2 mins away from home... but that was my first in about 5 years driving... pretty good considering i had PLENTY of other opportunities to lose my license!

heheheh

My 1200 Oval puts an end to all speeding now though... when Belle was running that is... but Mum's SSS kinda makes me do evil things...

in case you're a speeding fine virgin...

I had never received any sort of fine or lost any demerit points....until 2 days after i bought my beetle!

I found that quite amusing considering that my previous cars were newer and generally faster.

Anyway - i was less than 10k over :(
But I found out totally by chance the day before the fine was due *phew* that if you have NO prior fines etc and are less than 10k over, you can write a letter to put in a 'plea'. So I got out of the murderous $125. Very lucky indeed :bounce

so take heed...they certainly don't tend to publicise that little loophole.

happy driving

i got caught doing163kph in a 100 zone on my bike, i didn't have my bike licence and only held my L's on my car licence. i was disqualified for 18 months.and lost all my savings for a new car, (NOT DISCLOSING HOW MUCH), but one good thing came out of it (i think). the only car i could afford when i got my licence was a beetle. so i guess that i have the cops to thank for my vw obsession :thumb:thumb

There was a time when I got pulled over at least 3 nights a week. Sometimes even 3 time in one night. The thing about driving interstate is you never know if you will have a License the following week. It's a real us and them attitude when you drive a Truck (Truckies versus the Cop's)

The most I have ever been booked for is 62 Ks over the limit, in 1990 that cost me one months Suspension and $190.

I now have a couple of electrical devices to help me sniff out the Cop's and Cameras, and touch wood I've never had a camera fine.
I got a fine once and I said to the Cop who F'n cares I make 3 times more than you anyway.

That took the Grin of his face. :) :( hahaha

I got pulled up for (apparently) speeding in the middle of nowhere. The cop said, that I was driving 30kms over the 100k limit. I said, that my old '62 Beetle couldn't do anything near that speed. He said he agreed and was about to just caution me, 'to slow down' and to leave me to it, when he said could he look at the engine. This worried me, because the engine 'looks' like it would do that speed, plus more. I said why do you want to look at the motor? "Just open the engine cover", he said. So I open it, then he booked me.

Mark

not me but close call and 3 points but not a vw
shows you how the holden boys act round here hehe (theyre all good mates)

6 teenage boys and 3 cars dont mix with dirt roads

1st car took the road at 80 pushed upto 90 along the strait (1.5k) then backed off to 80 to go over the crest in the road and down the bend all safe and loving it

2nd car 70 up the strait backed off to 60 for the bend and then off to 55ish for the crest .... dodgy suspension..... (its a left bend at the crest) so he looses the arse out the the right side over compensated to the left back to the right hit the bankwent up the bank on the drivers side and flipped..... theyre all ok but it was scary..... i was really scared when i heard it . . . . then i was told they were allright

my mate lost an instant 2 for the crash (happens on ya p plates) and 1 for "Speeding" hehe locked up all 4 wheels haha was quite funny hearing the story

theres been heaps of crashes round here lately .... most of them teenagers and most of them with 1 fatality .... glad the 1600 cant go to fast :P

speed

i was a rep in the days when speed cameras were hidden. i accumulated 27 points in one week prior to xmas with all the running around i was doing in sydney.
nothing more than jsut flowing with the traffic. but in the wrong place i suppose.
got 8 offences in 4 days. got 3 in one day. all in different locations too. should have seen there faces when i went down to parramatta to view the pics as i couldnt believe it.
so here i am on probabtion. silent 'p's... and my woman is telling me to be extra carefull as one more and im out of a job. well the second week into the 12 motnhs and i am caught doing 72 in a 60. unbelievable!! my lady help me with that.

over the 9 years of reppeing. i was never done for anything big..( all though funny that i was let of for big offences a few times, but there is no way to talk out of a letter in the mail offence) but certanly helped fixed a pot hole or 4 dozen.

since giving up repping. i have only been caught three times. once coming back form VVDS after dropping my speedo in for work. yes i was travelling with no speedo in the split in peak traffic on canterbury rd and bang... 76 in 60. coming back from phillip island last year on the CBR... 103 in 100. and once in the beetle for 66 in a 60. pretty said offences really as they are so petty.

yet i took the bus to mike at CBB for my new motor...CANT WAIT!!!! and a mate followed me down on the bike. he kept yelling out why are we even needing to do this... as i was sitting on 145.... hahaha so where were the cops then,,, must be too much like work to actually have to chase someone when you can jsut contract the hard stuff out and leave it to the cameras.

excuses

been done a couple of times, i was doing 150 in a perfect wide triple dual carriageway alone on the road *mostly* and saw a cop thru the trees up ahead coming the other way. so you go "aahh crapp!!! and slamm on the brakes and think "mebbe i can just go reaaaaal fast and hide in the next turnoff, or maybe he didn't see me, and I'll wait in vain, or maybe he didn't get a long enough fix on me with the gun thru the trees and i should just putt along at 100... oh shit.

the you hear the fwwoop of the siren as they flash and tail you for a bit. and you're wondering how incredibly fast they must have driven to catch up with you so quick.. and how dangerous it would have been to achieve the collar. sorry spook, but cops love speeding too.

then the excuses come out.

(like duncombemu) "this ol thing?"
"you sure it was me?!?!?"
or
"sorry, i now see my speedo's in mph, i thought 100 was 100... "
"must have looked away from the speedo for a sec as i went thru that last corner..."
"i was worried about the cops and was looking out for you and so wasn't looking at my speedo.."
"I'm a drug runner and I have a tight schedule to keep"
"i was saving petrol and rolling really fast with the engine shut off"
"if i don't speed, I fall asleep at the wheel thru sheer boredom, and then i might KILL someone.."
"yes. officer, i know i was speeding, but wasn't it fun doing that handbrake turn back there and 'opening her up' a bit on the straight? you must have been doing 180k's back there...."
"congratulations, you've been caught on candid camera. we've been messing with your calibrations to see if we could get you to pull over a car doing 60ks in a hundred zone!!"
"I'm blind, how the fuck do i know how fast i'm going?"
"i figured what with the 16 beers in my gut right now, the sooner i got home and off the road the safer it would be for everybody."
"the voices told me to go fast"
etc
:D

1987. cant say I got caught by the cops, cos I got stuck on the 2nd fence I had just crashed through. But when they came they werent impressed.

Unlicensed driving. Driving in a dangerous manner. Negligent driving. A ride in a divvy van, a court appearance, $1500 in fines, 3 years suspension.

Appealed. Got the unlicenced reduced to unaccompanied learner. Still $1500 in fines but only 6 months suspension.

Got licence back. Got caught 80 in a 60 zone. Buh bye for another 3 months.

Got licence back, must have kept it longer than my probationary period, but got caught 129 in 130. (so it said on the ticket).

Since then I have been caught by 1 red light camera that I went through accidently. That was 11 years ago.

I've only had a few speeding fines over the years. I got two in rapid succession after getting the EH on the road about 6 years ago.
I've kept it tame, but then I got done twice in two months for 64 in a 60 and 88 in an 80. Both in the VW's.
Ironic that I have a 300hp supercharged street machine that I cruise in, and the stockie VW's that belong to the wife are getting me caught.
So now I will get no more. I just don't see the point in filling state coffers when I drive 64 in a 60 in daylight on a dry road in a very safe RWC vehicle, when there are busted arse crap dangerous rusted out wrecks with bald tyres and bonnets held down with string doing 62 on a wet road at night with one headlight, no tail lights and the camera thinks it is ok that the driver throws the contents of their ashtray out at the lights.

Well in these two scenario's I am the one that gets a fine and a picture taken :cry

One thing I noticed in Sydney were the MASSIVE warning signs where speed cameras are located. Down here in Vic we have them all hidden (even in wheelie bins) It's abit of a dog of a system, pure revenue raising IMHO.
A friend of mine spent a winter in Germany doing part of year 12, on an exchange program. Everyday he would get a lift to school with the 18 y.o girl he was staying with, in an old ford escort, on winter tires, down the autobahn at nearly 200KPH. He said he never saw one crash.
Our speed limits on interstate freeways have'nt changed since the late 60's. However our suburban roads have been up'd by 10 or 20KPH due to "better response of modern vehicles in emergency situation"
Also, if speeding is such a deadly fellony on open freeways laid better than most racetracks. How come pursuit officers are allowed to do 250KPH to catch someone doing 120, 140, 160KPH?!?!
I've been told it's because they're trained properly. But I doubt driver of the ford wagon, with a family of 5 onboard, taking his/her family interstate is trained to have a pursuit car pass him at 100KPH+ over the speed he/she is already travelling. Let alone if a highly geared 300KW V8 can pull up fast enough, should the said driver pull out to pass a slower car/truck.
It does'nt make sense if you ask me, or maybe I'm just narrow minded/blinded to the superior driving skills of our police force over the everyday citizen.
