Drilling and tapping a bolt


the inlet manifold stud has snapped in the 1500

what side is the stud so i can get a replacement bolt, what size tap will i need to get it out

do i have any other choices, EZE-OUTS havent worked (plus im a bit scared to use them) and there isnt enuff to get and nut and mig it so it can b unscrewed

You're going to have to go hard with the Ezy-out. You may be able to apply some gentle heat with an oxy to help loosen it a little, and use the ezy-out while its still warm.

Couldn't tell you the thread pitch, but I think they're 8mm.

drill a 3 (1/8) pilot hole up the centre of the sheered bolt for the ezyout/auger to get a hold and use a much smaller auger so that you dont have to stress about destroying the threads 8mm x 1.25 is easy to tap cos the pitch is not to steep or too shallow but its hard to redraw when you catch it with the easy out :P

Did you say 1500 Single port engine as the inlet stud is a 6 mm.

the later 1600 twin port is a 8 mm stud

Go to the wreckers and get a S/H stud and fit that with some locktite better than jaming a bolt in there.

From memory the stud holes go through into the rocket area so you might be able to un screw the stud from the inside.

or go to your local vw head place and get them to do it they do it all the time and wouldnt charge much?
