I do, but I have noticed that recent watercooled cars have no 'sense of VW community', and presume they know you..
So I, unfortunetly, tend not to wave to the 'New Generation' Volkswagens.. But the others... RELIGIOUSLY!!

THE LOWEST WITH THE MOSTEST BLING BLING WINS!!

Seems to be an aircooled thing here as well. You just have to raise the hand to the other "oldies" out there! My kids do the same even if
we're in the (dare I say it??) Kia!

My addiction began back in the mid '60's and I have progressed thru to a New Beetle.I have no attraction to any other water cooled
VW(perhaps one day to the new generation of Kombi)and will acknowledge any one driving any model Beetle or any other air cooled VW.I have at least one
air cooled VW from the 50's,60's and 70's and an '02 New Beetle and admire and respect everyone who makes an attempt to keep the
air cooled ones running in whatever form that they choose.I seem to get a feeling that people who drive the newer model h2o VW's don't even
want to acknowledge any one driving a New Beetle.Any way I will still keep waving.

Lets face it, the new models don't have the same old style indiviuality as the old one's.
The new one's are not much different to any other modern car. To own and use a pre 80's beetle requires a lot more devotion, due to the
amount of maintainence required, this usually means the owners of these cars do a lot of the work themselve's, this breeds a relationship-
connection, with the car that you dont get sending it to the dealers for a service! the PPL who have the new ones, to them it's just another
car, they could very well have bought a holden or a BMW.
I think this may be the reason the newer model owners don't wave, they are not really what you call " VW PPL" like us.

I tend to agree anything type 1,2,3,4 will wave at watercooled however different story i don't really think that they look at their rides as
vw's but just a mode of transport.

Well i am a new Beetle owner and i wave at everyone i see..... but normally the older Air cooled vehicles dont wave back but i dont give up though.
I do get lots of people come and have a bit of a chatt in the middle of carparks and even once at an intersection on a red light....
We also own a Kombi i do have to admit we get lots more waves and hellos in the Kombi.
We have been out in the new purchase a Country Buggy we have not taken her onto the main streets but have had a lot of looks that is for sure and alot
of questions wtf is that......

I'll never forget when i bought my first kombi about 8 years ago & just after i bought it i drove into Noosa & a fellow kombi driver
coming the other way waved at me,i quickly returned the wave & have been doing it ever since!!!!
The worst is when your driving someone elses car(thats not a veedub)& you pass a fellow dubber & forget that your not in your vw & you
wave & they look at you strangely!!They then probably spend the rest of the day trying to work out if they knew you or not!! |

Hi
I wave all the time, but I have also found that the newer VWs owners just dont get it. How tied does yuor arm get when your at a VW event like
Nambucca, your waving to almost every car.

I try to wave to all VW's dispite what kind
old or new.
But get more waves from older VW's.
Its frustrating when your a passenger of another car & you still want to wave to all VW's

its good to see that everyone is in aggreeance about the sense of community, almost the closeness that only a religeon can provide, minus the sad logo
:jesus
starbuggy - i wave to you.. there is a royal blue and red convertible type 1 that refuse to wave.. plus most sunshine coast kombis dont wave.. i guess
they must just be borrowing the car or dont understand the meaning of politeness

I always wave and get a bit of a buzz when someone waves back to me. Kinda makes my whole day. I don't wave to Golfs though, partly cause I
don't realise what they are until they're on top of me and they are everywhere. Not much different to any other small car on the road at the
moment, the personality isn't there (apologies to the golf drivers, just what I think)
Did a bit of a double take the other night when you pulled up alongside me on the highway fuz! Saw the bug then realised it had the markings along the
sides! Waved like mad and had a grin on my face all night at work. :thumb

I love to wave but in the type 3 a lot of Vee Dubbers don't recognise the connection so don't wave back
You feel like you're in a non VW with some of the looks, but then when you do see a possitive repsonse you know they are a Vee Dubber who knows

I find that only Kombi drivers do the VW wave. I wave to all kombi's and get quite pissed off if they don't wave back:cussing If they do
wave back it really makes my day
I am not a snob to other Vee Dubs and will return a wave if they give me one. But this does not happen very often.

I find that type 3's wave back to me more than type 2's do... i think thats great!!
there are 4 beetles at my work (including mine) and we all wave to eachother if we see eachother. a few weeks ago there was a strange beetle with an
oldish man sitting inside of it outside my parking spot at work. I made sure i waved with great enthusiasm and that he saw me. He then proceeded to
give me the dirtiest look i have had for ages! :cry I think that put me off waving for the day |

whildt driving through sydney last weekend on my way from newcastle to wollongong i waved at every air cooled VW that i spotted and only got a wave
back from a notch back. was feeling rather rejected till then, i thought that they changed the waving rule and no one told me.

2 recent awesome waving experiences...
(1) coming out of Canberra, a guy in a Kombi (which looked as though it had done alot of travelling ) going the other stuck the FULL arm out out the window to give a huuuuuge wave!!
(2) pleasantly suprised last week when driving through Kellyville when a Bug not only waved to me in a Kombi but PRE-EMPTED the wave by giving me a flash of his/her lights first on approach
Hooray the wave :thumb

I confine my waving to other kombis (T1/T2 only though). Usually get a wave back.
I've tried waving from non-VWs or the footpath - doesn't work!

believe how many waves we got from other kombis. he suggested starting something similar with his beloved commodore. We laughed at him and said good
luck!!!!!!! |

But Byron is full of Kombis...hippy homes and Euro backpackers, they very rarely wave, infact someone gave me the finger when i waved once...
