To split or not to split?

As most of you know well probly very few know i have a 57 beetle with an oval of course and i want to make it into a commander wagon from teh 2nd world war, should i split window it to give it a more authentic feel and be truer to the wagon or just leave it as an oval, people have tole me that i will get majorly shunned if i do acculy split it because it dident come stock, so does anybody have any thougts that might help me decide?:thumb

Well I'm a stickler for keeping a VW as it left the factory, especialy Oval's, they are getting few and far between now, and we should be saving as many as we can, not chopping them up, and loosing them forever!

Why not get an oval roof section and modify it rather than permanantly scarring a whole car? There are a few roof cuts around.

But by doing that itl like ruin the semaphores and i dont want to chop it that much, and i dont have the money to buy a new roof, cuase i have to buy a beetle to transplant everything into teh 57' from it.

Bloody good choise! you won't regret it, try to find a body that is a bit rough and get it back into reasonable shape and make a commanderwagen out of that!

Black nice meeting you the other night,

Why not just get a fibreglass split kit, put it in and Bob's your uncle. Down the track if you want to turn it back into an oval just belt the fibreglass out and put the window back in.

that way you'll make everyone happy. you'll have your semi authentic kommandeurwagen and the fithful will have an oval down the tracj\k some time.

I'm building a kommanduer using a 62 bug
it all depends on how authentic you want it to be and how much $ you want to spend

I rekon itl be godo to use a fiberglass kit on the 57 cause then it wont wreck the the oval:D an later on down teh track it can be fixed up and turned and proply restored or something:D
